Deputy Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province, Nguyen Thi Hoang, spoke at the conference.

The conference was chaired and directed by Deputy Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province, Nguyen Thi Hoang; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Van Huyen, Director of the Institute of Economics, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, Nguyen Huu Nguyen; and Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Lai The Thong.

At the conference, a representative from the research team of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics presented a topic on the sustainable development economic model of Dong Nai. They suggested that sustainable economic development is based on three main pillars: economic sustainability, social development, and environmental protection. From this, the research team proposed to innovate the sustainable economic development model of Dong Nai on the following foundations: focusing on industry as the core, promoting Dong Nai to become a modern industrial hub of the country; leveraging existing advantages in the agricultural sector within the Southeast region, promoting high-value, high-tech, and sustainable agriculture; and enhancing the development of the service sector, with a focus on the development of Long Thanh Airport city and industrial support services.

The conference featured five presentations from various departments and sectors, analyzing and dissecting issues related to the province's economic model, identifying fundamental bottlenecks, and key factors hindering the process of transforming the growth model. They addressed challenges in shifting from an extensive growth model, which increases input factors, to an intensive growth model. Solutions were discussed to promote the application of scientific and technological advances, innovation, enhance competitiveness, and develop the economy alongside cultural, social development, and environmental protection.

According to Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hoang, in recent times, the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress has led to the issuance and active enforcement of numerous programs, projects, plans, and policies, yielding encouraging results. Dong Nai is among the provinces with the fastest economic growth rates in the country. In 2023, the province's per capita GRDP ranked 7th nationwide. The economic structure continues to shift positively, and residents' incomes have improved. In 2023, Dong Nai ranked 3rd in the country in terms of per capita income. The province has also made significant efforts to innovate the growth model and enhance growth quality.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Van Huyen, Director of the Institute of Economics, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, spoke at the conference.

However, despite the achievements, the implementation of the goals and orientations set out in the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term also faces challenges. Growth rates show signs of recovery but remain slow. Industry, the main driving force of the province's economic growth, faces substantial difficulties due to global market fluctuations and slow recovery. The industrial sector is still primarily labor-intensive, and high-tech industries account for only about 2.7-2.9% of the province's total industrial output. Services, especially business support, industrial services, and logistics, are developing but not proportionate to their potential.

These issues necessitate a deep evaluation, analysis, and dissection of the province's economic model. Identifying fundamental bottlenecks and key factors hindering the transformation of the growth model is crucial.

For Dong Nai, alongside its inherent potentials and advantages, the upcoming operation of Long Thanh International Airport will provide a significant "push," creating opportunities and conditions to exploit new drivers and make breakthroughs in the province's economic model.
