Women’s role raised to meet the demands for new situation

        At present, there are over 380,000 female cadres and members who carry out emulation movements of the association contributing to promote emulation movements and bringing about good effects. Participating in the association’s movements, women will have a chance to care, share and help each other to overcome difficulty and have prosperous and healthy family life. In response to the special emulation to celebrate the 10th National Women’s Congress, besides common activities, the levels of the association had 62 houses of compassion built with the total cost of VND 400 million to give difficult cadres and members. The association levels also had many various ways to improve female members’ awareness of  instructions and resolutions of the Party and the Association on bringing into play the power of the Great national unity, Vietnamese women’s traditional virtue in the age of industrialization and modernization, knowledge of law, especially policies related to women and children’s rights, application of scientific and technological advance to economic development and production, knowledge of family life, children education, reproductive health care, law of sex equality etc. Through activities to support women in economic development, the association’s levels coordinated with each other and transferred about yearly borrowing-capital of 100 billion VND to more than 40,000 women and supporting poor women and making a model of poverty alleviation women were paid special attention. In particular, the Association contracted with Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and Bank for Social Policies, taking advantage of the capital from the Central, international projects to have more sources of capital for poor women.

        In addition to helping each other in doing business, and building happy families, the province’s levels of women association took part in charity activities enthusiastically. In 2007, 2,204 Nguyen Thi Dinh scholarships and 499 schools were given to poor pupils with their good learning results by the women association, with the total amount of over VND 570 million; giving 673 presents for policy beneficiary families with the money of more than 66 million VND and encouraging women to contribute over 500 million VND to repair inter-hamlet houses.

        To be more powerful, the association’s levels carried out a survey to master the situation for strengthening   and raising the quality of the Association and members. The Association built up many effective models of teams, groups and clubs in order to gather and attract women to it. As the result, it gathered and developed with over 29,240 new members, raising the province’s total member to 426,082 and getting the rate of 65 percent of over 18 year-old women participating in the Association; and 90 percent of the associations are good and strong.

        With the last year’s results, Dong Nai province’s women movements were honorably appreciated by the Central Association; the province’s women union received excellent emulation flag; 39 units and 8 individuals were awarded certificates of merit conferred by the Association Central.

        Keeping upholding good results of the year 2007, the province’s women union will direct the association’s levels to carry out major tasks and  enhance knowledge, ability as well as capacity of women so that it can meet the demand for new situation in 2008.
