Keep paying attention to agricultural development

According to the report of the People's Committee of Long Thanh District, with the orientation of urban development, the land fund for agricultural land of Long Thanh District is decreasing in size. Specifically, in 2021, the total cultivated area in the district will reach more than 19.5 thousand hectares, deduct 19.65% over the same period last year due to the local handover of land to the Long Thanh International Airport Project and other non-agricultural projects. In which, the area of annual plants is nearly 7.9 thousand hectares, perennial industrial plants are more than 10,000 hectares and nearly 1.6 thousand hectares are fruit trees.

However, in 2021, the district's agricultural, forestry and fishery production value will reach over VND2.7 trillion, up to 3.96% over the same period last year, higher than the general growth rate of the whole province. The district is also interested in building the program "One Commune One Product" (OCOP), so up to now, the whole district has 15 OCOP products, in which, there are 9 products rated 4 stars. The whole district has currently had 9 cooperatives in the agriculture sector, most of which are developing in the direction of applying high technology and clean production.

Mr. Tran Van Than, Vice Chairman of Long Thanh District People's Committee said that with the orientation of airport urban development, the land fund for agricultural land of Long Thanh District is decreasing in size, making it difficult to build a concentrated production area, large scale. But in 2022, the locality continues to set high targets with the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production reaching over VND2.8 trillion, up from 3.7-4% over the same period in 2021.

Attracting investment in Hi-tech agriculture

Regarding the planning orientation of agricultural development land of Long Thanh District is nearly 7.3 thousand hectares, accounting for 16.9% of the total area of the area. Most of the agricultural land funds are planned according to the orientation of high-tech agricultural development or set aside for the development of high-tech agricultural projects. Specifically, Long Duc Commune plans to have more than 1,000 hectares of agricultural land, accounting for 34.68% of the entire commune's area and most of this land fund is for the development of high-tech agricultural projects. Binh An Commune plans arable land, high-tech agricultural project land with a scale of more than 1.3 thousand hectares.

In fact, the district has attracted a number of enterprises to invest large capital in the development of high-tech agriculture. The investment project of WinEco Agricultural Development and Production Investment Co., Ltd. is prominently investing in a high-tech vegetable farm in greenhouses, net houses and greenhouses in Long Phuoc Commune, Long Thanh District with scale of nearly 84 hectares. This is the first high-tech clean vegetable production area of Dong Nai Province that has been granted a planting area code for export to the European market.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thao, Regional Director of WinEco Agricultural Development and Production Investment Co., Ltd, said that in order to ensure the quality and food safety of fresh fruit and vegetable products, WinEco implements the closed manufacturing process, strictly following the criteria on design, quality and food safety: from choosing the source of soil - water, seed, sowing, tending, harvesting, preliminary processing - packaging - post-harvest preservation management and delivery to the supermarket system. It is expected that in April, on average, this farm will supply to the market from 120-130 tons of organic vegetables and about 140 tons of melons each month. The farm is currently creating jobs for about 200 agricultural workers. The biggest goal of investing in a high-tech agricultural project of the enterprise is to organize linkages and transfer technology and safe farming techniques to farmers in order to develop safe and high-tech agriculture in local.

According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Vinh, Deputy Manager Department of Economic of Long Thanh District, the locality has attracted a number of businesses to invest in hi-tech agricultural project. Based on agricultural production areas planned to develop high-tech agriculture, the district also develops a plan to support a synchronous infrastructure system to meet the necessary requirements of electricity, water, roads in order to create favorable conditions for businesses to invest.

However, the current big difficulty is that investing in high-tech agriculture requires a large amount of capital. In which, the biggest problem now is that to invest in high-tech agricultural production model, households or investors all need to build essential infrastructure for production and business such as preliminary processing zones, warehouses, drying kilns, camps, housing for workers, etc. However, the implementation of the above constructions is currently entangled with many procedures regarding land, construction, introduction of investment locations and other difficulties due to having many national major projects in the locality. Accordingly, the high land price is also a barrier for people and investors to accumulate large land funds to develop high-tech agricultural production on a large scale.

In the period of 2022-2025, communes with potential and advantages for the development of high-tech agriculture such as Binh An, Cam Duong, Long Duc, Long Phuoc, Bau Can, Tan Hiep and Phuoc Binh strive to build 1-2 production areas for high-tech agricultural production.
