Survey to evaluate the recognition of Cat Tien National Park as world natural heritage

Delegation of Experts from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) arrived at Dong Nai People’s Committee in the afternoon of September 17 to evaluate the dossiers of nominating Cat Tien National Park to be recognized as world natural heritage. Experts are greeted by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri - Vice Chairman and representatives of departments of Dong Nai, Lam Dong and Binh Phuoc provinces.

Delegation of experts arrived at Cat Tien National Park on the afternoon of September 17

At the meeting, the experts had a discussion with provincial leaders on the agenda of the delegation at Cat Tien National Park. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri - Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee said that the government would create favorable conditions for the delegation during the time working here.

In the agenda, from September 18th – 22nd, the delegation will work at Cat Tien National Park on the following contents: field surveys, working with the government and local people in the park buffer zone. The issues are concerned by the expert team including global traits, the integrity of park ecosystems and heritage management plan.

The field survey team is also comprised of members of Institute for Vietnam Environment Sustainable Development and   Institute for Vietnam Ecology and Biological Resources.

It is known that Cat Tien National Park is located in Lam Dong, Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces with a total area of ​​71.920 hectares. It is now one of the six world biosphere reserves in Vietnam and one of the four nominees for UNESCO recognition as the world natural heritage.
