The final generator of Son La hydropower plant is scheduled to start its operation on September 27, raising the plant’s capacity to 2,400MW and supplying over 10 billion kWh of power to the national grid each year.

Therefore, Son La Hydropower plant will start generates 60 million kWh/day of electricity to national grid in only 10 days. This is a very significant figure for the country in the current period in the power supply for socio-economic development to meet people's daily life.

After turbine 6 comes into operation (the last turbine of Son La hydropower plant), construction units will accomplish the final stage to prepare for the inauguration of the full plant in December this year.

Mr. Hoang Trong Nam, Director of Son La Hydropower Plant Company said that so far five turbines has remained stable operation, generating 10.7 billion kWh to the national grid. The company has currently built a reservoir whose water level reaches 206.7m height.

Son La Hydropower plant is the largest power plant in Southeast Asia operated by 6 turbines with a total capacity of 2400MW, which was built in It Ong commune, Muong La district, Son La province. The project is invested by Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN).
