Vietnam to host the biggest heath conference in Western Pacific

- From Sep 24th to 28th, 2012, the conference of World Health Organization (WHO) in Western Pacific hosted by Vietnam will take place in Hanoi.

On the afternoon of Sep 18th, 2012, at the press conference, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that it was the largest and the most important annual health conference in the region concluding 37 countries and territories.

There will be about 350 delegates taking part in this year's conference, including 22 delegation leaders who are Ministers of Health. The conference will be welcoming senior officials such as Directors at Asia Pacific regional levels of FAO, UNICEF and WFP, UN agencies such as UNDP, UNFPA, UNAIDS…, major partners in the world and many non-governmental organizations actively orperating in the health sector.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend and give a speech at the opening ceremony of the Conference.

The professional contents to be discussed at the conference this year will include issues such as: prevention of violence and accident injury, ignored tropical diseases, measles elimination, nutrition, prevention of tobacco harm, non-infectious diseases, health-related Millennium development, health finance, marsh fever and artermisinin resistance, open vaccination, world health regulations, HIV / AIDS prevention and treatment, reproductive health...

There would be5 Resolutions and 5 Strategies / Action Plans of the Western Pacific region in professional fields expected to be adopted at this conference.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Chairman of this year's conference said that as the host country to hold the conference, it would be a"High-level Forum on Universal Health Insurance" taking place on the afternoon of Sep 24th, 2012, co-presided by Minister of Health and Director of WHO in Western Pacific region.

Vietnam will also launch a campaign to convey the message oriented towards to the universal health coverage with the topic: "The effort of Vietnam Government towards universal health insurance coverage and regional cooperation opportunities to achieve success.”

Delegation leaders of China, Japan, and Korea… would share the experiences in this field in order to achieve universal health insurance coverage.

Dr. Tran Thi Giang Huong, Director of International Cooperation Department affiliated to Ministry of Health, said, as the host country for the conference, Vietnam would take part in the discussions at all the professional meetings of the Conference with professional presentations.

Hosting the conference is an important milestone marking the close cooperation between Vietnam and the World Health Organization, contributing to the extensive integration of Vietnam in the region and in the world.
