Hoang Su Phi terraced fields recognized as national heritage

On September 16th, in Hoang Su Phi district, the Ha Giang provincial People’s Committee held a ceremony to receive the national heritage certificate for “Hoang Su Phi terraced fields”


Hoang Su Phi is one of three western mountainous districts of Ha Giang Province. Due to unfavorable natural conditions, agricultural production is the main practice of ethnic minorities in the area.

Hoang Su Phi terraced fields cover six communes including Ban Luoc, San Sa Ho, Ban Phung, Ho Thau, Nam Ty and Thong Nguyen; which were formed hundreds of years ago by hard-working and creative people of La Chi, Dao, Nung ethnic groups.

Hoang Su Phi terraced fields in Ha Giang in particular, or some localities in northern Vietnam high land in general convey historical significance, the clearest evidence of a long history of settlement and agricultural production labor practices of ethnic minorities in the region.

Cultural values ​​of the terraces are shown in farming experience, production practices and the formation of terraced fields of each ethnic minority which has different and specific features, creating terraced farming culture of ethnic communities.

The terraced fields are picture of wild beauty with grandeur natural space of mountainous region, which is also the potential to promote tourism.
