- Mr. Yukio Edano, Minister of Japan Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), said that Japan didn’t plan to postpone the construction of the nuclear power plants which has been approved by the Government.
Minister Edano gave this declaration only one day after Japanese government had approved a policy on new energy, committing to completely give up producing nuclear electric the decade of the 2030s after Fukushima nuclear disaster last year.
Before problem occurred at Fukushima power plant 1, the construction of two nuclear power plants in Aomori province and a nuclear pile in Shimane province had been approved by Japanese Government.
According to the new energy policy, Japanese government decided not to allow building the new piles as well as to restrict the operation of the piles which have been working for forty years. If the new nuclear power plant named Oma Aomori is allowed to operate by Japanese Government, the plant can work until the middle of the decade of the 2050s.
After Mr. Edano’s statement, Electric Power Development Company (EPD) said that Oma plant “would play an important role in supplying electric energy and in nuclear fuel cycle”, at the same time committed that EPD would “do everything to ensure safer operation of the plant”.
