Dong Nai to build free renting rooms

​After 12 years of implementation, Unions at all level of Dong Nai have built 26 residential areas for the labor force, free of drugs and vices, with more than 30.000 workers residing. Within these areas, apart from being guarded against social vices, workers are being informed about labor policies and law; taking part in campaigns against crime.


​Many years ago, crimes and vices, especially those relating to buying, selling drugs were very prevalent in some areas at Phuoc Thien commune (Nhon Trach district). Under these circumstances, vice-free residential areas were built and had successfully been sustained with 4 units, with 953 workers undertaking not to get involved in drugs or other kinds of vices.

Residing in renting rooms at Phuoc Thien commune, workers and their hosts are kept regularly informed about their province’s crime status in order to actively prevent it. The help from workers has been greatly contributing to the provincial criminal suppression of the police, through which 56 machetes and many more homemade weapons were retrieved. Besides, no social vices is to be seen at these renting rooms, through continual inspection, information the hosts always apply the standard, governed prices for electricity and water.

Mr Luu Thanh Binh, Vice President of Nho Trach Labor Union said that within the province, there were about 34.000 workers living in renting rooms. During the past years, the authority of the province has built up 34 residential areas free of drugs and social vices. Management Board of these areas have been cooperating closely with the government, local authorities to broadly inform workers about methods to avoid drug addiction, HIV/AIDS, prevent crime…Their active participation has resulted in the detection and capture of 4 criminals selling drugs, retrieving weapons of many villains.

In Bien Hoa city, there are currently 5 vice-free residential areas for workers, with nearly 2000 people residing. Nguyen Van Manh, one of the members of Long Binh Tan residential area shared with us that prior to their knowing each other’s face, the place had a reputation for losing things. Since the establishment of vice-free residential places, they had the chance to meet one another. The local Union also regularly held informal get-togethers to share information, talking about policies, labor law, encouraging the hosts to maintain stability in water and electricity prices. Now we feel safe for the past year no record of losing things has been taken.

According to Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc An, Chairwoman of the Labor Federation of Bien Hoa city, there are currently more than 67.000 renting rooms with 36.000 workers residing. Under the campaign to encourage all citizens to secure protection of the country, the Management Board of these residential areas has given their devotion in close collaboration with the authority. There has been more than 25.000 useful pieces of information given in by the workers, 198 cases in which they involved directly with the capture and handing over 268 offenders, 14 guns were retrieved…Besides, after 11PM, the Management Board of these places usually patrol, together with the local officers in duty, to maintain security and impede crimes.
 
Mr Doan Van Day, Vice chairman of the Labor Federation of Bien Hoa city, said that: the model of vice-free residential areas had been sustaining by the authority of Dong Nai for more than 12 years. Besides, some Unions also built up some formation such as the “Cultural residing place”, “Clubs for workers away from home”. At these places, more than 100.000 workers have been informed about the policies, regulations concerning the labor force. For the time being there are 80.000 workers pledging themselves not to involve in drugs and social vices. Since the establishment of these places, no cases of workers involving the storing, using of drugs and other kinds of vices was found. To further improve quality of these places, Unions at all levels will build libraries at some residential places with high density of workers, set up consulting offices about the law for the labor force…./.
