The new Dong Nai bridge is build to meet the transportation needs of people and ease the heavy traffic on the current bridge. The new bridge is considered a lifeline transportation route of the nation. It’s also one of the important bridges connecting 2 southern key economic regions to each other (Bien Hoa city and Ho Chi Minh city).
The new Dong Nai bridge together with the flyover for the Tan Van-Ho Chi Minh city route are constructed under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) model (a form of project financing, wherein a private entity receives a concession from the private or public sector to finance, design, construct, and operate a facility for a specified period. After the concession period ends, ownership is transferred back to the granting entity). The new bridge will have a length of nearly 500m and a width of 20m with five lanes. The project will be built with a total cost of VND1,877 billion, including VND622 billion for site clearances. It is expected to be put into use within the next 24 months.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai said that the existing Dong Nai bridge was
built in 1964. The bridge has a length of over 450m and a width of 19,6m with 4 lanes. From 2003 to 2005, it had been repaired many times by the Ministry of Transport. At present, building a new bridge to handle overloaded vehicles on the current bridge is a practical solution.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai highly appreciated the construction under the form of BOT that is encouraged to apply by the State in the difficult financial situation. He also praised the efforts made by Dong Nai province and neighboring provinces to promote the project. At the same time, he suggested that the construction of the new bridge should be completed in time and must ensure labor safety.
