Dong Nai province: 8th traditional meeting of former political prisoners held

On the morning of May 20, Dong Nai Liaison Committee for former political prisoners held the 8th traditional meeting of Dong Nai province former political prisoners at the provincial Square. Attending the meeting were Huynh Thi Nga – Vice-chairperson of Dong Nai People's Committee, the delegations from the provinces of Binh Thuan, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh city, and more than 250 former political prisoners of the province.

        At the meeting, Tran Thi Hoa-Head of Dong Nai Liaison Committee for former political prisoners made a report to review the glorious past of combating and overcoming harsh challenges of the prison system of Americans and their puppets. In the past 35 years, memories in prisons were left far behind, but they still are considered the war crime evidences of French colonialism and American imperialism.

At present, the Liaison Committee has been established from the provincial level to grassroots level.

5 liaison branches at communes. 274 former prisoners are Party members, 4 members of Dong Nai Liaison Committee are conferred the title “Hero Vietnamese Mother”, and one member conferred the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”. In order to help the members of Dong Nai Liaison Committee to overcome difficulty in accommodation, Dong Nai Liaison Committee for former political prisoners have mobilized companies to build 12 gratitude houses and 27 compassion houses.

The former prisoners so far have made a lot of contributions in their new positions.
