In the 2007-2008 school year, the education sector continued promoting achievements, overcoming difficulties and making a good job of doing the school year’s duties. The educational quality and scale increasingly developed. In preschool education, 92 percent of children met the A-level health standard. In primary education, the pupils who were good at Vietnamese Literature accounted for 31.01 percent and those who were good at Mathematics accounted for 36.25 percent. In secondary education, students of distinction reached 13.36 percent, up 1.1 percent and in high school education, this kind of students made up 4.07 percent – up 0.08 percent.
Educational programs, content and methodology continued being reformed and qualification of officials and teachers were improved. The whole sector intensified the facilities construction and educational equipment provision and reinforced schools and classrooms. Examinations and inspection were carried out safely, seriously in accordance with regulations as required in the campaign “Say no to negative phenomenon in examination and phony achievements in education”.
These results could be achieved thanks to the effort made by teachers, education watchdog officials and students across the province in responding to the two major campaigns of the Central Committee and the sector. This new school year aims at applying information technology, reforming finance management and building friendly schools and active students.
In the last school year, the whole sector yet had some weaknesses such as: a group of officials, civil servants and students have yet been enthusiastic in responding to the campaigns, the educational and training quality are not equally good, a number of students quit school due to many reasons, many high schools have low rates of graduates, some of remote schools lack facilities and so on
Le Minh Hoang, Director of DOET answered units’ petitions on some issues. Financial issue, for example, he said, DOET is collaborating with Department of Finance to act as counselors for the Provincial People's Committee to promulgate some specific regimes for the education and training sector. For example, district-level and provincial-level excellent student competition are financed, extra-classes are paid, organization of two-shift teaching in primary education is supported, said he.
Answering the questions about school quitting students, he said the concerned units had to know clearly the number, where they would go and what they would do after stopping school, adding that if these students quit these regular training to come to continuation classes or vocational centres, they could not be considered as the quitters. The concerned units needed to have an accurate survey to work out a suitable plan, commented he. Other issues like changing semi-public schools to suitable types, universalizing high school education and building schools were explained and given solutions by the Director of DOET
Addressing at the conference, Huynh Thi Nga praised the achievements gained in the last school year by the sector. She suggested that the education sector in the coming school year should develop enough teachers whose qualification also meet the demand, promote the application of IT to schools, intensify qualification of education management agency and watchdog officials and promote the initiative to use resources of the state, the sector and the people to good advantage…. Particularly, the Vice Chairperson warned that the sector need checking and have specific solutions to minimize the number of school quitting students.
The conference also launched the campaign in which a commitment is signed to make good the student-quit-school situation in Dong Nai by leaders of Dong Nai DOET, Trade Union, Women’s Association, HCM Communist Youth Union, Study Encouragement Society, Ex-Teachers’ Association, Radio and Television Station and Dong Nai Newspaper.
On this occasion, MOET awarded certificates of merit to 21 organizations and 17 individuals. The Provincial People's Committee awarded excellent emulation flags to distinct organizations and certificates of merit to excellent high school teachers in the provincial teacher competition, national excellent students, computer good students and students gaining high scores in the recent graduation exam.
