Dong Nai collect suggestions for the drafted master plan for socioeconomic development from 2006 toward 2020

 The development plan of Dong Nai is conducted by the Strategic Master Plan Institute of the Planning and Investment Ministry. The conference was presided over by Mr. Vo Van Mot, Deputy Secretary of provincial Party Committee and Chairman of provincial People’s Committee.  

Located in the southeastern region and the key economic hub in the south, Dong Nai plays a significant role in the socioeconomic development, foreign trade and national defense in the region. Over the past 10 years, its economy has rapidly grown with the average growth rate of 12.4%, higher than 1.5 times in comparison to the average growth rate of the period between 1986 and 1995. In 2005, the total production value of the economy reaches 30,000 billion VND, making up of 9.1% of GDP of the key economic hub in the south and about 3.6% of national GDP. GDP per capita in the province is 856 USD/per year, equal to 60% of the average of the key economic hub and 1.3 times higher than that of the average of the nation.

According to this drafted plan, the economic structure is rapidly changed and obtains important progresses. Over the past 10 years, the average growth rate of industry sector is 17.6%, agriculture 4.3%; service 10.3%. In general, the average growth rate of its economic is maintained at a quite high level. The socioeconomic development of Dong Nai province, particularly its ability to attract foreign investment, has been a corner stone of the general development in the south region. Basing on the internal and external factors, it is estimated that in the period from 2006 to 2020 Dong Nai will develop vigorously.

However, with these developments, Dong Nai will encounter many challenges such as urban infrastructure, transportation system, human resource and environment pollution…etc. At the conference, Department of Planning and Investment highly appreciates suggestions from delegates. Most of the suggestions focus on the strategy as to have the sustainable developments. Some suggestions point out that the economy rapidly developed but the changes of product structure into modernization and industrialization of each sector are still low and do not reflect the key products of the province in accordance with the key economic hub in the south. Dong Nai should make out detailed plans for this. In addition, it should carefully select the projects perfect in line with its development plan so as to avoid wastefulness. Especially, most of the delegates are concerned about the solutions to speed up the development of service sector and to develop agriculture. Speaking at the conference, Mr. Vo Van Mot requests relevant agencies, departments to have more researches and adjustments to perfect the master plan of the province so as to submit it to the provincial Party Committee and People’s Council for approval.
