Dong Nai actively building diplomatic relations with Malaysia

​(CTT-Dong Nai) – For a while now, along with the whole country, Dong Nai has actively shown its role in building and developing the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia. ​

Mrs. Wong Chia Chiann, Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City presented medals to Mr. Ho Thanh Son, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Nguyen Son Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

​Established trade partner

Firstly, Dong Nai has been actively contributing to the economic development between Vietnam and Malaysia. Today, Malaysia is currently the second largest trading partner of Vietnam in ASEAN and the ninth in the world; while Vietnam is Malaysia's third largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2022, bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia reached 19.2 billion USD, surpassing the target set by 2025 of 18 billion USD.
In Dong Nai, Malaysia is one of six ASEAN countries investing in the province with 18 projects with a total registered capital of over $200 million. In recent years, Dong Nai enterprises have imported huge amount of raw materials for industrial production and consumer goods from ASEAN countries and Malaysia such as chemicals, iron and steel, machinery and equipment...
According to Malaysian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City – Mrs. Wong Chia Chiann, the relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam is getting closer and closer. In particular, Dong Nai is a province with close relationships, a destination for Malaysian businesses and regularly organizes people-to-people activities.

Nguyen Thanh Tri, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, added that tourism promotion activities between the people of Dong Nai and ASEAN countries, including Malaysia, have been carrying out. This also contributes to strongly promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam and Dong Nai province with ASEAN friends, including the people of Malaysia; and at the same time, meeting the needs of people in the province to learn more about the culture and tourism of Malaysia.

Establishing a people-to-people diplomatic relation

Along with economic relations, Dong Nai is also building positive people-to-people diplomatic relations with the country and people of Malaysia.
Specifically, Dong Nai and other localities of Malaysia have regularly hold cultural and religious exchanges. In particular, Muslims in Dong Nai often come to Malaysia for religious activities. According to Mullah Do Ho Sen (Binh Son Mosque, Long Thanh), every Friday and 2 important holidays of the year, Malaysian experts work at H.Long Thanh and neighboring localities come to and participate in activities at the sanctuary. Malaysian delegations also come to interact with the people and visit the mosque. The Muslim community in H.Long Thanh also has trips to Malaysia to attend religious festivals, visit, and interact with Muslims in your country.
According to Mr. Huynh Huu Nghia, Acting Head of the Executive Committee of the Bien Hoa Seven Palaces of Ancient Temple (Ong Pagoda, Hiep Hoa Ward, Bien Hoa City), every occasion when the festival of Ong Pagoda is held, the Board of Directors always sends invitations to representatives of members organizing Quan Thanh festival in Malaysia to come and participate. And vice versa, the Organizing Committee of this festival in Malaysia also invited the Executive Board to come and participate in the festival. Through meetings and exchanges, the two sides shared the advantages and disadvantages in the process of organizing the festival to better themselves in upcoming events.
In addition, the provincial Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association, including 10 countries in the community of Southeast Asian nations, annually organizes meetings and exchanges on the anniversaries of countries in the ASEAN community. For example in August 2022, the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association in Dong Nai province organized a meeting to celebrate and exchange ASEAN cultures on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (1967- 2022).
Participating in this event were the Consulate General of ASEAN countries in Ho Chi Minh City, including Malaysia. During the program, the parties coordinated to organize booths to introduce the images, land and people of Malaysia to the participants of the event. At the same time, young people who are students of universities and colleges also demonstrate traditional Malaysian costumes to everyone. ​
