(CTT-Dong Nai) - On June 15, at the Conference and Event Center of the province, Dong Nai province ceremonially held an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia.

Attending the celebration were Ms. Wong Chia Chiann – Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, Consul Generals of ASEAN countries in Ho Chi Minh City, art troupe from Malaysia and representatives of leading Malaysian businesses. in Dong Nai province.
On the provincial side, there were Mr. Ho Thanh Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Mr Thai Bao - Chairman of Provincial People's Council, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai Province – Mr. Nguyen Tat Do, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee – Mr. Nguyen Son Hung and leaders of agencies, associations, government officials and members of provincial friendship associations.

During his welcome speech at the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – Mr. Nguyen Son Hung highly appreciated the results of cooperation and exchanges with Malaysia in particular, and ASEAN countries in general in the past. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also hoped that Dong Nai would have more opportunities to cooperate and exchange with member countries of the ASEAN Community, as well as the joint efforts to contribute to the integration and development of Dong Nai province in the future.
Vietnam and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in 1973. After 50 years of building and development, an important milestone was the signing of the Joint Statement on the Strategic Partnership Framework by the two countries in 2015, even more special when Vietnam is Malaysia's only strategic partner in ASEAN. The friendly relationship between the two countries has developed comprehensively and deeply on all pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy. Currently, Malaysia is the 2nd largest trading partner of Vietnam in ASEAN and 9th in the world. Vietnam is Malaysia's third largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2022, bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Malaysia reached 19.2 billion USD, surpassing the target set by 2025 of 18 billion USD.
In Dong Nai province, there are 19 projects from Malaysian investors with total investment capital of more than 200 million USD. In 2021, the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association - the first multilateral friendship association of the province was found, which has become a bridge to build and cultivate solidarity and friendship between the people of Dong Nai and the peoples of the countries in the ASEAN bloc, including Malaysia.

Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City – Ms. Wong Chia Chiann, thanked Dong Nai province for solemnly organizing the event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, for welcoming and showing special affections to the art delegation from Malaysia. She also expressed that of all the southern provinces and cities, Dong Nai has a very close relationship with the Consulate General of Malaysia. The two sides have a lot of potential for cooperation, and today's event was one of the opportunities to connect cooperation activities in the future.
At the celebration, Mr. Mai Van Nhon, Chairman of the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association in Dong Nai province, said that the Union of Friendship Organizations of the province and the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association of Dong Nai province had coordinated to organize a lot of events. There have been many joint programs organized with the help from Consulate Generals of ASEAN countries in Ho Chi Minh City, but this is the first bilateral cooperation program between the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association and the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. Especially, the art exchange program between artists of the two countries with unique and rich art performances bearing the cultural identity of each country and the presence of the art troupe of 21 artists from Malaysia have offered many activities of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Dong Nai province and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City.
