(CTT-Dong Nai) - According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, when it comes into operation, the Long Thanh International Airport project will offer about 13.8 thousand job openings. To make the most out of this opportunity, the province and Long Thanh district have developed employment programs and projects.
Implementation is being focused to turn
opportunities and advantages into reality.
Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Son Hung attended the signing ceremony of training cooperation between Lilama 2 International College of Technology and Vietjet Aviation Academy (VJAA).
Huge demand
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam's estimation, when the Long Thanh Airport project comes into operation, it will need about 13.8 thousand workers, from high school to university education, of which the most are university, accounting for about 40% of total labor needed.
In order to generate enough human resources for the project and create jobs for people in the project area, from previous years, the province has directed to proactively survey and research the locals' needs, on that basis to develop a Training and Job Placement Plan.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that in 2020, when the project had not yet started, the Department had worked with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on human resource needs. After that, the Department sent a written request to the Vietnam Institute of Aviation Science and Technology to assist in developing the outline and draft of the project on training high-quality aviation human resources, but so far there has been no response.
To take the initiative in this matter, the Department had worked with various vocational training institutions in the province and in June 2023, Lilama 2 International College of Technology (in Long Thanh district) signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietjet Academy of Aviation (VJAA) to provide training of 4 professions: maintenance, repairing aircraft and aircraft equipment staff; flight dispatchers and operators; personnel to control and operate aviation equipment; ground workers. The first course will begin in the school year 2023-2024.
In addition, Lilama 2 International College of Technology is cooperating with Aircraft Engineering One Member Limited Liability Company (headquarter in Hanoi) to train a number of courses in the field of aeronautical engineering. In this school year, students will enroll in the following occupations: aircraft maintenance technician, aircraft structural repair technician, aviation logistics.
Also according to Mrs. Hien, labor for the aviation industry is unique, partitioners must have a certain education level and the training institution must be licensed by a specialized agency, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. Therefore, not everyone wants to learn and every school can train. For example, students majoring in aviation do not have to have a level of TOEIC 450 in English to study.
In addition to the workforce directly related to the airport, when this project comes into operation, it will pull the development of other industrial parks, logistics service zones, and commercial zones.

An opportunity for the local labor force
Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien said that in the coming time, she would actively support Lilama 2 International College of Technology in implementing the signed training programs. The Department will advise the Provincial People's Committee on specific plans, coordinate with the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and employers to link or coordinate training of human resources for Long Thanh airport. Particularly for skilled labor, education centers will actively work with employers to update and integrate new training programs and professions.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh, Vice Chairman of Long Thanh district People's Committee said that although there had not been an official meeting or "order" from units with labor needs, from 2020 to now, the district has organized many propaganda and orientation sessions for people and students of high schools in the area about the needs, professions and job opportunities at Long Thanh airport.
According to the leader of Long Thanh district, the locality is developing a project to train highly skilled human resources to meet the development needs of Long Thanh urban area, including the airport. The district has set up a team to implement the project, in which members include vocational schools and high schools in the area. The targets of the project are quite numerous, including local and provincial workers.
In the future, the district will continue to propagate and inform people and students about the professions that are in demand when the airport comes into operation, the conditions, especially foreign languages. Mr. Thanh said that, if there is close coordination from the employers on how much manpower needed, in what industry, and at what stage the district will be easier to propagate and work with schools. This is also a solution to ensure jobs for students after graduation.
Obviously, future job needs and opportunities are there, but turning that into reality requires close coordination between the parties in providing information on demands and conditions. The more specific this information is, the easier it is for students to choose their careers. The training institutions also have additional plans or links to train human resources to meet the requirements, and the employers can also acquire local and quality employees.
According to Lilama 2 International College of Technology, this academic year 2023-2024 will officially open new professions according to the signed program. Before entering the school, students will be able to take an entrance exam. At the school, you will learn professional knowledge and skills in the field of aviation. Upon graduation, you will be awarded a college degree from the school and a certificate from an associate partner to be able to work at the airport.
