Construction of Nhon Trach power plant and Phu My-Ho Chi Minh City gas pipeline project began

On the morning of March 24, Minister of Industry Hoang Trung Hai, First Secretary of the Central Communist Youth League – Ho Chi Minh City Vo Van Thuong, leaders of Dong Nai Province, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, and a lot of members of the communist youth league of Dong Nai province witnessed the national oil group holding a ground-breaking ceremony of the construction of Nhon Trach power plant and Phu My-Ho Chi Minh City gas pipeline project complex at the T-juncture of Dong Tranh-Long Tau Rivers in Commune 3, Phuoc Khanh Ward, Nhon Trach.

The project, with a total investment of US$1,132 million on a total area of 180 hectares, has been developed since April 2007 and is scheduled to be completed in 2011. The Nhon Trach Power Plant Project will be carried out in two phases: constructing the Nhon Trach Power Plant No. 1 with output capacity of 450 MW and the Nhon Trach Power Plant No. 2 of 750 MW.

Once completed, the project will supply 6,6 billion KWH of power and earn an estimated income of US$662 million per year.

The project is aimed at stabilizing and assuring energy supply for the national industrialization and modernization, contributing to solving the problem of power shortage of the national power system in the period of 2006-2010.
