Attracting high technology into the production and processing of local products

Monday - 14/03/2022 07:53

The Provincial People's Committee has just issued a plan to develop the bio-industry of the industry and trade sector by 2030 in Dong Nai Province. This is considered a solution to improve the production value of products processed from local raw materials, especially products derived from fruits and agricultural products.

According to enterprises, intensive investment in the field of production and processing of agricultural products is an urgent requirement today. However, in order to invest and apply high technology, it requires a lot of resources, so the support from the State in terms of mechanisms, policies and capital is very necessary.

Attracting high technology into local product processing is a long-term plan

Hard to compete if the value is low

According to Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Thu, a senior lecturer at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai's agriculture only accounts for nearly 6% of the province's GDP, but it is the backbone of the province's economy, not only creating the amounts of products satisfies the needs of millions of people in the province and the Southeast region, but also contributes to export. However, the level of development and application of high technology to increase the value of products, especially processed products, is still very difficult. To improve the value of agricultural products, Dong Nai should develop in breadth and depth, apply high technology in the fields of: cultivation, husbandry, processing, and e-commerce.

Dong Nai is exporting agricultural products to more than 30 countries and territories such as Russia, Korea, the Middle East, etc. However, in recent times, the export is still very precarious because most agricultural products are still exported significantly through China. The congestion of goods when this country repeatedly suspends imports is still a challenging problem.

On the business perspective, Mr. Ho Quoc Thai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Luong Gia Company, which has 2 processing factories in Dong Nai Province said that the company's products are all manufactured according to the supply chain. This ensures the source of input materials and is processed according to the production model with advanced technology, meeting global standards for international food safety. Enterprises have wanted to continue to expand production scale and invest in deep processing for many years, but funding is still limited. In particular, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has made it more difficult for businesses, so the company needs the support from the State to improve production efficiency.

Similarly, at Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd., over the years, it has cooperated with Ken Vietnam Cocoa Production Trading Co., Ltd (with Japanese investment) to promote and export chocolate and products from Japan. Dong Nai cocoa to the world market.

Mr. Dang Tuong Khanh, Director of the company, said that Trong Duc's development direction is aimed at the high-end and very high-end market, competing by quality and taste, not by cheap price.

Attracting high-tech investment

In order to create a basis for attracting enterprises to apply technology, especially biotechnology to production, the province has issued a plan to develop the bio-industry of Industry and Trade until 2030. In the field of production and processing, focusing on developing key products applying biotechnology, with competitive advantages of the province such as food processing, production of consumer goods to meet domestic demand and export. Invest in research and development of biotechnology, promote the formation of scientific enterprises applying biotechnology. Striving to 2030, the proportion of the value of high-tech industrial products, biotechnology accounts for at least 20% in the processing industries.

Dong Nai continues to deploy and effectively operate 2 Industrial Clusters for deep processing of agricultural products in Dinh Quan and Cam My districts; expanding Dau Giay agricultural food wholesale market (Thong Nhat District); forming linkage clusters, production chains, and industry values. Maintain the growth rate, the added value of the food processing industry from 8-10% per year. At the same time, actively research, receive and apply new technologies from advanced countries. Attracting projects focusing on production according to closed technology, circular production for products with domestic materials, both creating high added value and minimizing environmental pollution.

In order to continue to support exports, the Industry and Trade sector will make efforts to consult and find out information from markets and trade counselors in other countries to grasp the needs and prospects, thereby solving problems, promote the enhancement of the value of products and goods of Dong Nai as well as of Vietnam.
