Meeting to mark the 51st anniversary of Tan Hiep Jail Rebel

On November 30th morning, at Tan Hiep Jail Vestige, Tan Tien Ward, Bien Hoa City, the Provincial Board for Contacting Former Political Prisoners in collaboration with functional agencies hold a traditional meeting to mark the 51st anniversary of Tan Hiep Jail Rebel (December 2nd 1956 – December 2nd 2007). Attending the meeting was Vice-Chairperson of the Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga.

Tan Hiep jail has the total area of 46,520 square meters with 8 stockades including 5 stockades used for imprisoning patriotic communist prisoners. Surrounding the jail are 4 layers of barbed wire with blockhouses, 3 watchtowers and modern alarm system. Having determination to escape imperialist jail, and receiving the permission from inter-provincial Party Committee of Southeastern region, in December 2nd 1956, the communist soldiers, who were arrested in Tan Hiep jail, directly led by Mr. Nguyen Trong Tam (with the alias of Bay Tam), who was the head of Party Cell in Tan Hiep jail, had revolted against the warders and liberated over 462 patriotic communists and people.

Therefore, on December 2nd of every year, fomer political prisoners of Tan Hiep jail held a meeting to review  the magnanimous tradition and commemorate 22  heroes who sacrified their life in the rebel.
