At first, the city renamed 59 routes and remained 19 street names, modified 10 route names and renamed some other public works. To help citizens understand more about the biographies and the merits of the people that streets are named after, this information is noted on signs installed on these streets. Besides, to avoid citizens’ confusion, the old routes’ names are added beside their new names on the signs. After finishing renaming the main routes, the city will step by step install name signs of nearly 2000 alleys together with routes intersecting the main road axis. Accordingly, the city will set up signs and posts at 100 intersections, roundabouts leading to renamed routes.

The streets are named after not only nation’s heroes , cultural celebrities and historic milestones such as April 30th, August Revolution, but also political, social concepts or historical events; for instance Streets of Independence and Justice, War Zone Ho Can, War Zone  D. The names of the routes are chosen and given in conformity with the scale, length, width of the routes. To be able to comprehensively deploy naming and renaming streets, the People’s Council of the city broadly collects suggestions from people.

In order that renaming the streets doesn’t influence the administrative management, documents, and family record books as well as civil transactions by citizens, Administrative bodies of the city will officially accept and conduct administration procedure relating to the modification of street according to people’s needs in the city.
