After one-year operation, 23 gardening households who took part in the project all did a good job in conducting the project, properly applying the techniques they were trained for and attending high-yield pomelo club once a month. Besides, these households also attended seminars on pomelo-care techniques and watering system, toured and learned the experience in growing and caring for pomelos in the provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre. Thanks to this, they could learn a number of new advanced techniques such as irrigation system, safely producing-pomelo model; advanced gardening tools etc
The project has presently shown, concerning the growing and intensive watering model, higher yield than the time before applying the new model with average weight of 0.9 kg per pomelo and an average output of 153 pomelos per tree. At present, the project officials are instructing the gardeners to follow methods to make the trees bloom so that it is possible to harvest the fruits in Tet Holiday. After one-year application of the new model along with the regular instruction and examination by technicians, the pomelos have been well grown with the trees’ average height of 1.85 meters and the tree-trunks’ average diameter of 2.88 centimeters.
Compared to the 2007 plan, the project has been implemented in accordance with the proposed schedule and objective.
