It is expected that in July, the first shipment of products processed from chicken breast from Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd (Long Binh Industrial Zone, Bien Hoa City) will be exported to Japan. This means that for the first time many chicken farmers in Dong Nai and some provinces in the Southeast region are able to export their own chicken products thanks to their production links with this business. .
This is good news in the situation that a series of chicken ranchers have been struggling with the uncertainty of the current market.
Exporting chicken breast into Japanese market
In order for chicken breast to be qualified for Japanese market, it is imperative that the product meet strict hygiene and food safety requirements as well as the Japanese standard of disease control.
According to Mr. Tran Van Quang, Head of the Animal Husbandry - Veterinary Department, as of 2016, Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. has taken steps to prepare before exporting processed products fromchicken breast into Japanese market. Accordingly, to meet the requirements of partners, Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. must form a closed production chain from breeding stock, breeding process, food, slaughter process and a complete processing chain to ensure safety and hygiene. Based on this request, Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. has cooperated with some farmers in Dong Nai and some provinces in the Southeast to prepare raw materials for processing.
Currently 11 poultry producers in the region with the capacity to supply 15 million chickens per year are involved in thechainaffiliated with the company. In order to join this chain, chicken farmers must meet the safe chicken production process standards; particularly the raised chicken does not contain antibiotic residues during the production process. In addition, during the raising process, farmers must also write out the tracking logs for future traceability.
Processed products from chicken breast exportedinto Japanese market in July will open up great opportunities for ranchers.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duyen, the owner of a chicken farm in Tan Hiep commune, Long Thanh district, a chicken farm that participates in the affiliated chain, shares that after joining the chain with Koyu & Unitek Co., his poultry ranch muststrictly adhere to European standards. It means that all stages of farming must be clearly documented; chicken stocking andfood (nutrient content) must also have origin and meet the highest standards. Especially to create quality chicken products, when and how to use antibiotics to make sure that chicken does not contain antibiotic residues must also be strictly adhered. With the scale of supplying more than 850,000 chickens weighing from 1.8 to 2.3 kg / unita year, Mr. Duyen's poultry farm is equipped with a system of cold coops, biological padding and automatic feeding system. Chickens are fully vaccinated against infectious diseases. They are fed properlyin accordance with each stage of their development. "To make sure thatthe chickens are free from antibiotic residues as required by the company, we do not use any antibiotics and vaccines, "said Mr. Duyen.
In addition to preparing raw materials to serve the export of chicken breast products into Japanese market, the exporter is also completing the construction of the product processing system. "The company has a slaughter plant in Long Binh Industrial Zone with a capacity of over 20,000 units per day. In 2016, the company built a chicken meat processing facility. It is expected that by the end of March, the Japanese Department of Animal Health will conduct assessment, if the requirements are met, the Japanese inspectors will allow Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. to export products from chicken breast, "said Mr. Quang..
New direction for ranchers
According to Le Van Quyet, Vice Chairman of the Southeast Asian Poultry Breeding Association, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has completed the necessary formalities for Koyu & Unitek Ltd. to ship the first batch of goods into Japanese market. "The first shipment is expected to depart in July," Mr. Quyet said.
That the first shipment is likely to enter Japanese market after about five months, according to Mr. Quyet, not only helps improve the value of Vietnamese chicken, but also brings about new direction for chicken farmers, which is considered the best advantage, reducing dependency on the domestic market, thereby enhancing the position of the domestic chicken. "This is really a good sign for chicken farmers. By joining the chain like this, when the chicken is first put into the coop, it is scheduledfor the export date, whichis not dependent on the market anymore. This helps the owner to take full initiative in chicken input and output. That is the biggest benefit" he shares.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Quang, the development of affiliated chains along with the application of disease-free procedures will open up new opportunities for poultry producers, particularly with chickens, one of the two main poultriesin the province. Therefore, in order to open up new markets for chicken products, Dong Nai has set up two disease-free zones in two big animal husbandry areas of the province, Trang Bom and Thong Nhat districts. "The Department of Animal Health is establishing an evaluation team, which is expected to conduct an assessment on chickens for avian influenza and Newcastle disease inthe disease-free zones by the end of February," said Mr. Quang..
According to Mr. Quang, if the zones are assessed as safe, it will create an opportunityto form breeding areas for domestic consumption and aims to expand the export market for poultry products.
