Korean experts are viewing the designed model of Long Thanh International Airport.
In early 2017, professors from Inha University and the authority pf Incheon International Airport (South Korea) arrived in Dong Nai to provide the province with the information to develop the adjacent area of Long Thanh International Airport. The recommendations of experts were noteworthy.
* The experience from Incheon
Introducing Incheon International Airport, Park Ki Chan, member of the Incheon Airport Board of Directors, said that the Korean government had been conducting research on Incheon Airport in 1992 and by 1996 completed phase 1, put into phase operation in 2001.
Incheon International Airport, for 10 successive years (2006-2016), has been listed among the world's best airports, according to a survey by the International Airport Council (ACI). In 2016, the airport ranked third among the top 10 airports in the world. Each year, Incheon Airport transports 54 million international passengers and 4.2 million tons of cargo. This year, it is expected that the third phase of the airport will be operational, through which there will be about 66 million international passengers transiting.
Up to now, it has been over 6 years of operation, but Incheon Airport is still in the process of completing the surrounding urban cluster. In order to fully exploit Incheon Airport, the Korean government has been developing three areas: Songdo, Yeongjong and Cheongna around the airport to become special economic zones. These are just minutes away from Incheon Airport by subway. The traffic is very convenient, and the facilities and services ranging from amusement and leisure to logistics are very good. These are the first special economic zones in Korea that are generating huge revenues for Korea each year.
According to Prof. Ha Hun Koo from Inha University, the success of Incheon Airport is due to the development of the area around the airport, the high standard of the world and the location of this place, which turns it into an airport city.
* Maintain planning
Prof. Ha Hun Koo said that South Korea has invested nearly 36 billion dollars in the Incheon Special Economic Zone. To date, it has continued to call for investment, both domestically and internationally, for the region to continue to improve its infrastructure. South Korean experts pointed out, with the development of Long Thanh International Airport, the development of services around the airport is very important.
"Long Thanh International Airport, if it is well planned for proper development in the surrounding area, it will be an opportunity for Dong Nai to develop strongly in the future," said Prof. Ha Hun Koo. The professor also said that Inha University is ready to support Dong Nai province in planning and building the adjacent area of Long Thanh Airport into an airport city.
About the current progress of planning Long Thanh Airport today, in addition to 5,000 hectares of land for building the airport, the province has also planned 21 thousand hectares of land around the airport to build service areas. By the end of 2016, when working with the People's Committee of Long Thanh district, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee DinhQuoc Thai asked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to support Long Thanh district to maintain planning to avoid the situation of land split and land transfer in this area.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Van Vinh said that earlier this year the province will send a delegation to Korea to study the experience of building the area around Incheon's airport. According to the recommendations of Korean experts, it is important to exploit the Long Thanh Airport firstly as transportation which must be linked to Ho Chi Minh City and convenient for cargo transportation to surrounding industrial parks and cities
