Local enterprises boost production after Tet holidays

After Tet holidays, Dong Tam Ceramics and Pottery Company restarted production on February 3 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year). The company is enhancing its production to ensure supplies under contracts entered into before the Tet holidays. In 2005, Dong Tam Company entered into a contract with Home Depot, Lowes and others from US for selling its new products worth a thousand dollars per month. This year, the company will concentrate on new product development to meet the growing market and different customers taste. In 2006, Dong Tam Company plans to expand its production and employ more workers with projected growth reaching up to approximately 700-800 employees. The figure presents an increase of over 200 people compared to now.

Truong Hai Auto Company Ltd. is local distributor of Kia commercial vehicles. Truong Hai established an assembly plant at the Chu Lai open economic zone where Hyundai, Kia light- and heavy-duty-commercial vehicles are being assembled since October, 2004. These results demonstrate aggressive growth and positive momentum recorded by Truong Hai. The Truong Hai Auto Company said it has been awarded large contracts worth over VND 15 billion since the beginning of this year. These are all actually very good signs for Truong Hai to continue achieving new record figures for sales volume and revenues for fiscal year 2006. Especially, Truong Hai wins the trust and confidence among its customers through offering Foton trucks because they are now around 40-50 percent cheaper than Korean vehicles. In 2005, Truong Hai generated its revenues of VND 1,400 billion, an increase of 11 per cent over the previous year. In addition, the company contributed VND 24 billion to State Budget and created jobs for 340 people. The average monthly amount given per person was VND 2.9 million.

Beside of Dong Tam Ceramics and Pottery Company and Truong Hai Auto Company Ltd., other firms including Thanh Long Ceramics Enterprise, Y My Ceramic Tile JVC, Phuc An Textile Enterprise, Binh Thanh Company Ltd. and so on have also been awarded large contracts which show hopeful promise of posting new record revenues for fiscal 2006.

Local Cooperatives develop new economic models

This year, the local cooperatives not only concentrate in producing goods but also develop new economic models, helping the members increase their income. Accordingly, Bau Ham agricultural service cooperative (Trang Bom district) developed ecological tourism services including fishing and eating and drinking area for tourists; Xuan Tay agricultural service cooperative established wood processing unit. In addition, Xuan Phu breeding services cooperative, one of the first cooperatives develop new economic model, has invested into breeding crocodiles with total quantity of nearly 200 crocodiles, helping its members earn more income. Head of the Xuan Phu cooperative Huynh Ngoc Son says that the cooperative in the next time will invest in constructing microorganism fertilizer plant. This kind of fertilizer will be used for fresh vegetable production aiming to  diversify the cooperative’s products. The new plant will create many jobs for local labors. To carry out new economic model, Da Ton aquatic product cooperative will deploy to build ecological tourism area in Da Ton Lake. There is hope that with new economic models and opportunities, the cooperatives in 2006 will find new ways to boost the local collective economy.
