Southeastern ethnic groups to gather for Festival of Sport and Culture

The Festival of Sport and Culture involving people from ethnic minority communities in Southeastern provinces will take place from December 9 through December 11 at House of Culture of the Ta Lai ethnic group.

 This festival is organized jointly by Dong Nai province’s Vietnam Fatherland Committee, the Provincial Department of Culture and Information and other relevant organizations. It will also welcome the 8th Provincial Party congress. The festival is expected to attract nearly 500 artists from ethnic minority communities in Southeastern provinces. There are now 6 provinces and city registered for the event such as Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Thuan and Ho Chi Minh City. 

Many cultural, art and sport activities will be hold at an area of 2 hectares around the House of Culture of the Ta Lai  during three days and nights. Two traditional festivals of the people from ethnic minority communities in Southeastern provinces comprised of the dam trau (buffalo sacrificing) ceremony and Sa Yang Va festival will be reappeared. Besides,  the festival will include traditional sports like nem con (throwing a small decorated ball through a ring hanging from a bamboo pole), Tet tree decoration,etc. Some traditional industries such as pottery, brocade weaving will be performed at the festival by craftmen from ethnic minority communities.
