Last turbine of Son La hydro-power plant connected to national electricity grid

The project management board of Son La hydro-power plant said that after 3 days of non-operation startup (since September 23rd), the 6th turbine of Son La hydroelectric power plant officially generated electricity and successfully connected to the national electricity grid on September 26th.

Since September 27th, Son La hydroelectric power plant will provide 60 million kWh every day to the grid. 

Son La hydroelectric power plant is a national key project with installed capacity of 2.400 MW (with 6 turbines), the main facility is located in Pa Vinh, It Ong town, Muong La district, Son La province. Son La river belongs to some towns and communes of Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces.   

The main task of Son La hydroelectric power plant is to generate an annual average amount of 10,246 billion kWh of electricity for the national electricity grid; prevent flood on rainy season, provide water on draught season in Northern Delta, and contribute to the economic and social development in North Western region.   

Launched in 2005, with high efforts of investors, the project management board, the consultants, contractors, the 1st turbine was successfully connected to the grid on December 17th, 2010 after that the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th group were promptly connected on schedule. Until now, the total amount of electricity generated by Son La hydroelectric power plant has reached 11,050 billion KWh.
