1. The 8th Provincial Party Congress for 2005-2010 tenure was held in Bien Hoa city over 3 days from December 21 till December 23. The congress was a big success and a symbol of solidarity, will, ability and intellect of the party committee and people of Dong Nai. The achievements made by the party committee and people of Dong Nai in the first 5 years of the twenty-first century will no doubt create a strong foundation for setting the pace in the province’s overall modernization drive.

The Festival of Sport and Culture involving people from ethnic minority communities in Southeastern provinces took place from December 9 through December 11 at House of Culture of the Ta Lai ethnic group. The festival attracted nearly 500 artists from ethnic minority groups in 8 cities and provinces of the Southeastern area.

The province has completely fulfilled the Government’s 135 program that focuses on developing 16 of the province’s poorest communes.

Bien Hoa city hosted first-ever street festival to mark the 30th anniversary of the southern liberation and national unification (April 30). Besides, Bien Hoa city’s night market was held at the new street on the side of Bien Hung Park on December 22. While it is possible to purchase anything from toys to t-shirts here, enjoying the night market is really a matter of just wandering about and enjoying its sights, sounds, and energy.

Dong Nai province successfully implemented and completed the program entitled “Bring light to poor blind people”. Over the past 5 years, more than 5,000 poor people have enjoyed free eye surgery. At the same time, tens of thousands of poor people have been offered free medical check-up and medicine.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Man, Deputy President of Dong Nai Provincial Youth Union and Director of Vocational Training and Job Placement Service became an ASEAN Youth Awardee at the ASEAN Youth Festival in Semarang, Indonesia. This event took place in August 23-25. The ASEAN Youth Award is the most important prize for ASEAN Youth affairs and selects one winner from its member nations each year.

Dong Nai Radio and Televison (ĐNRTV) has made its ĐN2 channel 24-hour service since May 19th, 2005. It is the first local television station which has launched its full 24-hour service.

Pham Huu Ngon, former student at Luong The Vinh Senior High School, Dong Nai province, the present student at the University of Technology in Ho Chi Minh City won third prize in the Vietnam Talent Contest 2005. Mr. Pham Van Sang, the Director of Dong Nai Department for Science and Technology Advanced who was one of CIO 10 honouree 2005 in Indochina (refers to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) received the certification. Both of them reached outstanding achievement in the field of IT in 2005.

Sonadezi College of Technology and Management (under Sonadezi Bien Hoa Corporation ) and Dong Nai Technology Private College officially established and started their first academic year, opened up a new form of training in Dong Nai’s vocational training field.

A special police force of the General Department of Police under the Ministry of Public Security captured the owner of an Internet shop at No. 262 National Highway 15, Thong Nhat ward, Bien Hoa City highway where saving and distributing banned publications on the internet.
