In the first half of 2010, Dong Nai’s economic growth rate jumps to 12.8%

Meeting

    According to the report by Dong Nai People’s Committee, Dong Nai’s GDP in the first half of 2010 hits over VND15.803 trillion, up 12.8% over the same period; particularly, construction and industry – VND10.4034 trillion, up 14%; services – VND4.1152 trillion, up 13.6% and agriculture, forestry and aquaculture – VND1.2846 trillion, up 2.2% over the same period.

    One of the highlights in the first half of 2010 is that industrial production hits VND53.046 trillion, approximately 54.6% according to plan targets, up 17.4% over the same period. Major industries show an increase over the same period. Particularly, mining and construction materials, food processing, textiles-footwear and wood processing rise by 14.3%, 26.9%, 16.5% and 14.2% respectively.

    Export earnings reach US$3,423 million, up 26.6% over the same period. Meanwhile, import value is US$4,204 million, up 52.7% over the same period. Regarding foreign investment attraction, there are 19 new issuances of investment certificates and 32 issuances of licenses on capital increase totalling US$502.6 million, representing 33.4% according to plan targets, 6.8 times as high as the same period.

    Also, Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture have achieved outstanding results, namely a cultivation area of 62,843 hectares every year, and a winter-spring rice crop area of 37,021 hectares, accounting for 99.9% according to plan targets, up 3.6% over the same period. For instance, there is a high yield on some main crops: rice – 54.8 quintals/ha, corn – 71.2 quintals/ha, and vegetables of all kinds – 138.4 quintals/ha and so on. In terms of livestock, Dong Nai has 1.2 million pigs, 8.8 million chickens, 81,605 cows and 4,336 water buffaloes.

    Commerce and Services show positive signs. Over the past six months, retail sales have totalled more than VND23.455 trillion, up 26.3% over the same period. Particularly, there is a wide range of merchandise and prices remain stable. Locally, budget revenue in the first half of 2010 hits over VND8.264 trillion, representing 57% according to estimates or up 25% over the same period. Tourism industry attracted a great number of people to tourist attractions and recreation centers. Culture, music and sports activities are held throughout the province to meet the people’s culture and entertainment demand. Dong Nai has assisted more than 49,560 job seekers finding jobs, offered vocational training courses to more than 22,020 people and made 35,451 poor households loans worth VND35.451 trillion.
