2009 summer vacation commences

On the morning of May 27, the Steering Committee for 2009 summer vacation celebrated the opening ceremony in the province’s cultural and sports complex. The ceremony was attended by Vice chairwoman of the provincial People's Committee – Huynh Thi Nga and Chairwoman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee – Nguyen Thi Kim Lien.

Opening ceremony

    Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of the provincial Youth Union – Bui Xuan Thong – said: “To promote 2008 summer vacation’s achievements, 2009 summer activities in Dong Nai province will go together with the activities to welcome major national holidays and important events. With the theme “A happy, healthy, safe and friendly summer”, this year’s summer activities will mainly focus on promoting education and propaganda of heroic traditions of the country. Thereby, it will help the children get an orientation towards their learning, striving and training to become useful people and create a summer playground of healthiness and usefulness for Dong Nai province’s teenagers and children so that the summer vacation will be a festival for children. It is necessary to continue to promote on-site voluntary activities, especially those of high school students – an elite force of the province’s voluntary youth movement, to improve the activity quality of young pioneer detachments, pioneer groups, voluntary clubs and pioneer clubs, to discover and train the talents in a variety of fields and nominate them to special pioneer detachments and groups with the intention of building a team of successors, to organize activities associated with natural environment, to form living skill clubs and to help them get an orientation towards an independent living style.

    Accordingly, the province’s 2009 summer activities mainly focus on the following ones: political education, academic review and talent development, cultural and sports activities, social activities and public-labor workdays. Particularly, in terms of political education, summer activities will focus on the education of national traditions and the learning about the history of major holidays, about the biography and life of famous persons and heroic martyrs and about local historical sites. It is necessary to hold the contest “Journey to Dien Bien” and other contests for acquiring a better understanding of  the glorious traditions of Youth Union, Pioneer Detachments and Vietnam Youth Union, to continue promoting the campaign “Dong Nai youth listen to and follow Uncle Ho’s advice” through eloquence contests, lecture competitions, quiz competitions, Uncle Ho’s bookcase and so on, to diversify forms of propaganda and education of the Party’s guidelines and the government’s policies and law with the intention of raising young pioneers’ awareness of obedience to law, to promote the campaign “Good life and useful life” among youth union members, teenagers and children in which they will participate in building cultural quarters and to hold classes of the propaganda of Vietnamese sea and islands for the team of young pioneer leaders and for key youth union members with the intention of educating pioneers on patriotism and protection of independence and national sovereignty. In terms of academic review and talent development, schools ought to actively collaborate with youth unions and young pioneer groups in holding extra refresher classes for weak students to help them acquire general knowledge before they start a new school year, hold illiteracy eradication classes, universal education classes and classes of compassion and especially pay more attention to ethnic group and homeless children, hold rudimentary classes of computer, language and talents for children in hinterland areas and encourage them to attend these classes, form clubs for pioneer units, detachments and groups who have the same favorite subjects and arrange visits to companies and vocational schools and craft villages for them with the intention of helping them get a job orientation… In terms of cultural, music and sports activities, it is necessary to appeal for social donations, to organize a variety of entertainment activities and create a summer playground of healthiness with activities: sightseeing trips, travel, field trips, picnics, camping trips, contests of culture, music performance and sports, reading books and newspapers... The province and local authorities will bring pioneer music performance groups, propaganda groups of revolutionary songs, music teams to hinterland communes to serve local residents and children. In terms of social activities and public-labor workdays, it is necessary to form youth teams who are voluntary to participate in social activities and contribute to bringing benefits to localities, to create conditions for teenagers and children to participate in the activities of looking after and educating exceptionally needy children, to arrange visits to and offer gifts to government-funded families, veterans’ families, heroic martyrs’ families and the families who have dedicated to the revolutionary career and to carry out the province’s youth projects with the intention of helping students in hinterland areas.

Young pioneers are presented with Kim Dong awards

    At the opening ceremony for 2009 summer vacation, the provincial team Association gave one Tran Van On award to Phun Kai Chong (a student from class TH72II of the 26/3 vocational training school) and eight Kim Dong awards to the children who obtained outstanding achievements in 2008.
