Though there existed some difficulties due to the fluctuations of essential commodity, petrol and electricity prices, and loan interest rates in the first quarter of 2011, Dong Nai’s economic growth remained relatively high.
Dong Nai’s GDP in the first quarter of 2011 rises by 13.1 percent whereas the country’s GDP goes up by 5.5 percent only.
In particular, Industry and Construction, Services and Agriculture-Forestry-Aquaculture increase by 14.2 percent, 14.5 percent and 3.3 percent over the same period, respectively.
Total retail sales of goods and services rise by 26.3 percent.
Total export value is estimated at US$2.14 billion, up 38.2 percent over the same period.
Total import value is estimated at US$2.45 billion, up 20.4 percent over the same period.
Foreign investment attraction hits US$84.3 million, as much as 73.2 percent over the same period.
Domestic investment attraction hits approximately VND2.11 trillion (US$100.11 million).
* Social security activities were maintained as follows:
- Jobs were generated for nearly 22,000 job seekers, up 1.1 percent over the same period.
- Loans worth VND2.1 billion (or US$99.44 million) were made to more than 190 needy households.
* In terms of social culture, encouraging results were achieved as follows:
- Cultural, musical and sports activities were held in most parts of the province. Basically, people’s cultural and entertainment needs, especially the needs of those living in far-flung areas were met to some extent.
- Public education-training, medical and healthcare services received much attention from levels of authorities and sectors and were complied according to the government’s regulations.
- Paying visits to and offering gifts to government policy beneficiaries during the country’s traditional Tet holidays were well prepared and carried out.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee Vo Van Mot emphatically asked:
- To focus on the implementation of the government’s resolution no. 11 on how to curb inflation, and fully and strictly follow Dong Nai People’s Committee’s directions.
- Continue enhancing the dissemination and propaganda of the initial results of the implementation of the government’s resolution.
- Focus on promoting production and exports, assisting local businesses in solving problems and paying special attention to cutting down trade deficit in an appropriate way.
Also, Mot requested that departments, committees, sectors and local authorities focus on how to widely disseminate electing delegates into the National Assembly and into levels of People’s Council.
