At present, Dong Nai has 206 cooperatives and unions of cooperatives, 602 artels, 4 unions of high-yield clubs and 29 people's credit unions. In the past 5 years, 2005 through 2009, the Union has supported the establishment of 110 cooperatives, which attracts more than 11,000 cooperative members. Despite their difficulties in capital raising, unbalanced operations and inability to gain access to market information, cooperative’s operations have gone pretty smoothly. They are gradually developing into multi-function and multi-sector cooperatives and extending areas of business. Emulation movements such as “Renovations, development and operational efficiency improvement, pioneer cooperatives of hunger elimination and poverty reduction" have produced many elite examples. A lot of cooperatives and people’s credit unions have become a reliable place for their cooperative members, thereby contributing to the transition in the structure of the local economy and to hunger elimination and poverty reduction.
Throughout 2010-2015 period, Dong Nai Union of Cooperatives will call for 90% of its cooperatives to encourage the establishment of new cooperatives accounting for 10% of total cooperatives and strive for 65% of its cooperatives doing business well and earning profits.
Addressing the meeting, Vice chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee - Ao Van Thinh requested that the collective-economy sector focus on seeking for and providing training for elites, spreading highly efficient business and production models and building new models of cooperatives in the coming time.
