Dong Nai investment promotion delegation visits Vietnam Embassy in US

Receiving the delegation was Mr. Nguyen Tam Chien, Vietnamese Ambassador to US. He informed the delegation about political and economic situation of US and the development of relation between two countries since the normalization and enactment of the BTA in 2001. Especially, bilateral trade between two countries has rapidly flourished. In 2001, trade turnover is just 1.4 billion USD and in 2004 this has increased 6.4 billion USD. These figures are very important but they do not correspond to the potential and expectation of two countries. The visit of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has opened a new chapter in history of bilateral relationship between two countries, particularly the concerns of US investors including many big multination groups has remarkably increased. Recent days, Vietnamese embassy received many representatives of multination groups and corporations who came here to look for information on investment environment in Vietnam.

On behalf of delegation, Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh informed Ambassador about initial results, especially the success of first workshop in New York. With careful preparation, the delegation settled all problems investors worried about. He also unveiled the plan for investment workshop at George Town University and called for support of Ambassador.

“I am much impressed by the film about potential, opportunities and advantages for investment in Dong Nai province. The film is direct and illustrates all information which potential partners are in need of. The answers of relevant enterprises and provincial leaders to investors’ inquiries are clear. I think this is a good way to attract western investors because they need information and want to get information on their own” said Mr. Le Luong Minh, Vietnamese ambassador to UN.

“We are investing in ASEAN and now a broker for American enterprises. I am very surprised about the information provided by delegation. I think Vietnam is a developing market and has much investment chances” said Ms. Carole Lynn Steiner, management director of Carole Lynn Steiner Corporation.

The Ambassador highly valued Dong Nai’s effort to organize an investment promotion delegation to US.  Dong Nai was the first ever province to send delegation with large scale and professional style of working. However, he also reminded delegation of many sensible matters which cause American investors to hesitate in investing in Vietnam, especially economic infrastructure. Despite it has been greatly improved, it still does not settle the strict requirements of American investors. American corporation still are still afraid of administrative procedure in Vietnam. Therefore, Dong Nai and other province should pay more attention to improve investment environment as so to turn Vietnam and Dong Nai to be a promising destination for American investors.
