Ministry of Transportation organized a groundbreaking ceremony of Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway construction project on July 19 in Can Gio district (Ho Chi Minh City). Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung addressed the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony is also attended by Minister of Transportation, Dinh La Thang and Chairman of provincial People’s Committee, Dinh Quoc Thai.
Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway construction project has 57km in length, passing through 3km of Long An province (Ben Luc district and Can Giuoc district); over 26km of Ho Chi Minh City (Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio district) and 28km of Dong Nai province (Nhon Trach and Long Thanh district). The starting point of the route is the center point of intersection between Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong expressway and ring road no.3. The ending point of route intersects with National Highway no.51 (near Phuoc Thai market, Phuoc Thai commune, Long Thanh district) for phase I. The ending point intersects with Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway for phase II.
The project is designed in accordance with expressway standard A with 4 lanes, 2 emergency stopping lanes, allowing vehicles to run at maximum speed of 100kph, 16 bridges and 6 intersections. The project consists of two large cable-stayed bridges. Firstly, the 2.76 km long Binh Khanh Bridge crosses over Soai Rap River, connects Nha Be district with Can Gio district of Ho Chi Minh city, and has 375m long main span, 155m high main tower. Secondly, the above 3 km long Phuoc Khanh Bridge crosses over Long Tau River, connects Can Gio district (Ho Chi Minh city) with Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province), and has 300m long main span, 135m high main tower. Both of bridges have clearance for navigation of 55m high. Because the project is constructed in some area with weak ground base, 20km long of bridges have to be built. The project is scheduled for completion and operation in 2018.
The project has an investment capital of 31,320 billion VND (1,607 billion USD) for phase I. The investment includes loans of 635 million USD from the Asian Development Bank (ADB); 635 million USD from Japan’s government through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and counterpart funds of 337 million USD from State’s budget.
On the occasion of anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27), Vietnam Expressway Corporation - the project owner has donated 100 million VND to Gratitude Fund of each local in the project’s area.
