Dong Nai supports green and sustainable development
For a long time, Dong Nai has been considered one of the prominent industrial development centers of the region and the country.

In the field of industrial development, currently, Dong Nai has developed 32 industrial zones, of which 31 have been put into operation. As the land bank used to attract investment is being filled up, the Government has approved a plan for Dong Nai to add 7 more industrial zones. Currently, these areas are undergoing legal procedures, calling for infrastructure investors to add thousands of hectares to the land bank for rent to meet development needs.

The prominent development of industrial production has helped Dong Nai province achieve great results in the field of economic development. However, the downside of this development process also causes the province to face many social challenges, including environmental pollution and unsustainable development.

Therefore, in the general development trend, the province aims for sustainable development, green economic development, and environmental friendliness with the goal of ensuring sustainable economic development, and moving toward the goal of establishing a green economy.

In the province's vision to develop sustainably, leaders of the province determine that sustainable development is to maximize the local advantages and potential to promote development. Moreover, it is stressed that the province will not trade the environment for economic benefits, and economic growth will go hand in hand with cultural and social development, environmental protection, ensuring social justice progress, not leaving consequences for the future and it has to be recognized by general consensus.

In particular, for economic development, the province will focus on developing green economy, circular economy and digital economy. Specifically, Dong Nai province will change its economic growth model, selectively attracting investment in the direction of increasing technology content, being environmentally friendly, not labor-intensive, and improving GRDP quality. In early September, the Provincial People's Committee signed a memorandum of understanding on green growth cooperation with Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (Saigontel).

According to Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Linh, there are nearly 20 thousand operating businesses in the province. Dong Nai is also one of the five provinces with the largest budget contribution to the country and is pursuing the goal of sustainable development, green development, implementing the Government's commitment to the convention at the COP26 conference. Therefore, the province supports the green development goals of the United Nations and international organizations, and is strongly promoting green development in the province.

Exploit the province's potential

According to Mr. David Lewis, General Director of Energy Capital Vietnam (ECV) (a project development company headquartered in Houston, Texas), Dong Nai's green development policy has been recognized and appreciated by many partners. As for ECV, the enterprise is committed to finding partners for Dong Nai province to help in implement projects as well as develop plans to promote green development in the province.

With the characteristics of Dong Nai province, the company plans to start a program to promote green development with projects using green energy and infrastructure development projects following eco-friendly trend. "The goal of reducing emissions has many solutions, in which energy is always the pillar that greatly contributes to reducing emissions" - Mr. David Lewis said.

He also stated that currently, industrial zones in the province use national grid power, of which coal power accounts for a large proportion. Therefore, one of the solutions that the company aims for is to build a separate energy grid for each industrial zone in the province with gas and solar as energy sources and use batteries to store them. As a result, this model will provide the cleanest energy source for industrial zones.

Meanwhile, Ms. Erik Chan, Director of Allotrope Partners Co., Ltd. (AP) said that as a consulting company on renewable energy and developing carbon credit projects, AP is currently supporting a number of carbon credit projects and they hope to be able to deploy these projects in Dong Nai province.

Miss Erik Chan also said that, for Dong Nai, to implement these projects, AP would first conduct an assessment of the current status of carbon emissions in the province. Next, they would develop plans and solutions to help reduce carbon emissions and steps to implement these solutions. Finally, the company would monitor and evaluate the implementation process. “In addition, AP will also establish connections with green financial institutions and private sector enterprises operating in the field of carbon credits to find projects and implement these projects in the province" - Ms. Erik Chan said.
