Application of artificial intelligence in the medical field

​(News Portal – Dong Nai) - On the afternoon of March 6, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Son Hung chaired a meeting with the Department of Health, Department of Information and Communications, Department of Science and Technology, and Provincial Union of Science and Technology on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical field. ​

Director of the Department of Health Le Quang Trung said that applying digital transformation and AI technology in the medical field as well as other industries is a mandatory requirement in the near future. However, to apply digital transformation and AI technology in diagnosis and treatment, basic infrastructure is a vital requirement.

Currently, Dong Nai's health sector has employed hospital management software, electronic medical records being used at Long Khanh General Hospital, as well as image diagnosis and image processing systems...  Department of Health is currently coordinating with the Department of Information and Communications to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for a policy, in the coming years the health sector will deploy 4 electronic medical records at 4 units. In addition, an image diagnosis and image processing system will also be deployed. At the same time, the Department of Health also requests investment in remote diagnostic software and information technology infrastructure. After being invested, the health sector will have a basis to apply AI technology in diagnosis and treatment...

Second Degree Specialist Doctor Le Quang Trung, Director of the Department of Health, also informed more about the difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing systems and software in disease diagnosis and treatment.

​Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Son Hung emphasized that the application of AI technology in the medical field will contribute to improving the efficiency of medical examination and treatment of people. Therefore, applying AI technology in diagnosis and treatment, even though it is difficult, it must be done with determination.

To have a basis for implementation, Mr. Nguyen Son Hung requested the Department of Science and Technology to support the implementation of research projects related to the application of AI technology in the medical field. From there, the health sector will select a number of contents to pilot and gradually deploy widely. During the implementation process, it is necessary to seek the Ministry of Health's opinion on this issue for further direction and guidance. In addition, the health sector also needs to research and organize digital transformation conferences in the health sector. The conference needs to focus on discussing specific solutions for digital transformation in this field. ​
