Farmers expect to plant more than 37.8 thousand hectares in the winter-spring crop of 2023-2034

​(News Portal – Dong Nai) – Currently, farmers in localities in the province are in the harvesting stage and organizing drying, pre-processing and preservation of agricultural products. The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented a planting plan for the winter-spring crop of 2023-2024.

According to the winter-spring crop planting plan, localities in the province are expected to plant more than 37.8 thousand hectares, including: food crops such as rice and corn occupy a large area of nearly 23.8 thousand hectares; another area of more than 6.8 thousand hectares are mainly vegetables... ​

For localities and areas that sow the winter-spring crop early, the sowing began in December and was expected to end before January 20, 2024. In particular, with rice varieties, it is necessary to maintain and select varieties with high yield, quality, and selling price that are suitable for local soil conditions. With corn and cassava varieties, priority should be given to using varieties that are resistant to diseases, especially cassava leaf mosaic disease and fall armyworm on corn. Localities need to coordinate with units that manage and exploit irrigation works in the province to develop irrigation plans and water reserves to combat drought at the end of the season and winter-spring crop, as well as plans to respond to water shortages and possible saltwater intrusion.
