Dong Nai seeks solutions to improve competitiveness index

​The Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) is one of the measures to assess the attractiveness of the business and investment environment, thereby raise problems so that local authorities can have better solutions.

Improving PCI index, supporting enterprises to develop is Dong Nai's cross-cutting task

In Dong Nai, improving competitiveness at the provincial level is a well-understood task. The current economic growth potential is huge, but if it is not proactive to improve, it will be difficult to meet the needs of people and businesses.

Still lots of work to do

According to the PCI survey results in 2021 of VCCI, Dong Nai reached 65.75 points, an increase of 1.09 points compared to 2020 (64.56 points), but ranked only 22/63 provinces and cities (drop 2 grades compared to 2020). To be specific, some areas have better evaluation from the business community such as market entry; unofficial expenses; land access; dynamism of the government; supporting businesses; legal institution. Besides, some reduction criteria are transparency; time costs; fair competition and labor training.

The overall assessment results, Dong Nai's score increased but the rank decreased, showing that there are still many problems to be done to improve the province's competitiveness, as well as to develop companion solutions to support businesses in their efforts to restore production and business in the current period.

Mr. Dau Anh Tuan, Head of the Legal Department of VCCI, said that for a locality like Dong Nai, the statistics on the above index are still not commensurate with the potential. The requirement is to find out the causes, from which to come up with solutions that need to be overcome to improve better in the future. Besides, the province also needs to refer to the experience of localities with high PCI rating from enterprises, from there to draw good ways. According to Mr. Tuan, the province as well as other departments and localities must really immediately start implementing solutions to promote the business environment, because the longer it is delayed, the more opportunities it will lose.

Be more aggressive in improving PCI

​Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Cao Tien Dung said that the PCI index is one of the important channels for the locality to review its management and leadership. Compared to the potential, the overall assessment of Dong Nai's CPI is not meet the requirements set out. From now until the end of the year, departments, branches and localities in the province must finally step in to overcome the encountered limitations, especially for the indicators that were reduced in 2021. In particular, focus on technology application and digital transformation to better serve businesses and people, raising the provincial competitive ranking higher.

In the coming time, the growth potential for Dong Nai is very vast, Long Thanh international airport, transport infrastructure system, industrial park... will still be a magnet to attract investment to Dong Nai. The great advantage but the pressure for the locality is also increasing, especially in the relationship with the business community, which arise the problem of having to be close and accompany and support each other to develop together.
