(News Portal – Dong Nai) – Dong Nai is a land rich in natural products as well as many farming and specialty growing areas. This is a source of fresh, safe ingredients that create many specialties suitable for the 2024 Lunar New Year market.
Due to the slow consumption power of the market at the end of this year, many specialty products have not increased in price, and have even decreased sharply to attract buyers.

Purchasing power only increased slightly
If someone is looking to buy Dong Nai's Tet specialties, Tan Trieu pomelo (Vinh Cuu district) is at the top of the list of specialties that should not to be missed. In addition to the famous sweet orange leaf pomelo variety that consumers prioritize as a gift for Tet, this land also has a variety of unique processed products such as pomelo wine, pomelo spring rolls, pomelo peel jam, pomelo peel tea…
It can be said that pomelo spring rolls are a traditional specialty of the Tan Trieu region, made quite elaborately by hand, so families usually only make them during Tet. The ingredients to make spring rolls are all rustic dishes available in the garden such as pomelo peel, green papaya fibers, sour star fruit... Removing the pomelo peel's green skin and taking the white pulp inside; star fruit is pressed to get juice to ferment, creating a natural acidity for the dish, papaya creates a delicious crunch... Simple ingredients but through the hands of the maker, this spring roll dish becomes an unmatched specialty to be served to guests or as a unique hometown gift for Tet.
Preparing to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024, many pomelo growers in Vinh Cuu district are busy making jam from pomelo peels. This unique, delicious dish that helps relieve colds and is good for digestion is increasingly popular with consumers.
Mr. Huynh Duc Hue, owner of Lang Buoi Ecotourism Area (Vinh Cuu district), proudly boasted that orange leaf sugary pomelo is a unique specialty of Tan Trieu islet because it is grown on alluvial soil deposited from the Dong Nai River. Delicious, safe pomelos are picked from the garden is used from the peel to the inside part which are used to prepare many delicious dishes. The menu of Pomelo Village Ecotourism Area currently has more than 20 delicious dishes made from pomelo such as: pomelo salad, steamed chicken with pomelo, grilled meat marinated with pomelo leaves, pomelo sweet soup, pomelo milk tea... In addition, there are other processed products such as: pomelo wine, pomelo spring rolls, pomelo peel tea, pomelo peel jam... all of which are preordered a lot by customers for consumption or as gifts during Tet.
Regarding livestock products, Dong Nai also has no shortage of specialties for consumers to choose from such as Dong Tao chicken, Herbal chicken, castrated rooster... Aquatic products include giant prawns, tiger prawns, barramundi, sea bass, carp... in abundant supply.
Reduce prices to stimulate consumption
It is forecasted that this year's economic situation will remain stagnant, the consumption power of the market will be weak. As a result, many specialty suppliers decide to not increase prices, some even reduce prices compared to the same period last year to stimulate consumption.
Mr. Nguyen Van Su, owner of a castrated rooster farm in Xuan Dong commune, Cam My district, said that for this Tet season, his family raised about 3,000 castrated roosters and 4,000 broiler chickens to supply to the market. Because the consumption power is weaker than usual, even at the peak of the Tet market, he still reduced the chicken price to only 120,000 VND/kg, about 40,000 VND lower than the same period in order to stimulate buying power.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of Huong Vinh Cuu Company Limited (Vinh An town, Vinh Cuu district) shared that currently the purchasing power of pork products was much lower than the same period every year. The meat output that her business is providing to the market only increased by about 10-15% compared to the previous month. It is predicted that this year's Tet market will not be as exciting as previous years. Accordingly, for the Lunar New Year 2024, the business provides additional processed product lines to the market such as: five-spice spring rolls, five-color flower rolls, pork rolls, sweet and sour sausages... To stimulate purchasing power on the occasion of introducing the new product lines, the company has a discount policy of 10-15% for all processed products.
Many specialty fish and shrimp products from fish and shrimp farming households also had their prices reduced. Eels that are currently sold in the market, as well as sea basses, carps... all have their prices lowered compared to the same period previous years.
