Meeting with village patriarchs, hamlet chiefs and widely respected people of ethnic minorities across the province

On Jan. 16 morning, village patriarchs, hamlet chiefs, and widely respected people representing over 31 ethnic communities across the province attended a meeting held by the provincial committee for ethnic minorities affairs at the office of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee. Attending the meeting were Son Phuoc Hoan-a representative of the Central Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs, Huynh Thi Nga-the Vice Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee.

In 2008, thanks to concern and help of the Party and the government as well as authorities at various levels, living of ethnic minorities across the province has been more and more improved. At the present, 83.31% ethnic minorities households have average living standard or above. However, they still have a lot of difficulty due to unequal development. Rate of poor ethnic minorities households has been 13.69%.

Addressing the meeting, the Vice-Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga highly appreciated role of village patriarchs and hamlet chiefs in past time for their cooperation with authorities at various levels to care for and improve material life along with awareness of ethnic minorities.

She also emphasized that, in the coming time, village patriarchs, hamlet chiefs together with widely respected people from ethnic minorities should continue to be right-hand men of authorities in encouraging ethnic minorities to better themselves, not rely on others, implement policies of the government and conserve social safety and order in the locality. The Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs in collaboration with relating branches continue to advise the provincial People’s Committee about supporting, helping, and caring for life of minorities. For the time being, in the first quarter of 2009, temporary houses and houses with leaky roofs will be eliminated.
