Empowered by scientific and technological advances, the yield of plants will soar.

Expanding the land for key plants and strengthening the intensive cultivation

Based on the planning report on cultivation, Xuan Loc will concentrate on developing short-day plants such as rice, corn, vegetable, sugarcane, cassava, various kinds of bean and peanut. Meanwhile, rice needs to be intensively cultivated and to raise rice yield and quality as well as reduce production cost so that rice competitiveness can be elevated. By 2015, land for rice cultivation can gain by 12,600 hectares, yield by 65,900 tons; by 2020, the size of rice-cultivating land rises by 7,600 hectares, equivalent to the yield of 40,900 tons; for corn, the land for corn cultivation will be expanded by the rotational cultivation method with rice and specialized vegetable; continue to intensively cultivate plants like high productive models. The corn land by 2015 would be 10,800 ha and produce 83,400 tons. By 2020, the corn land may rise by 16,500 ha and produce 136,400 tons. For vegetable, 1,000 hectares of safe vegetable is developed adopting IPM practice, concurrently continue to develop specialized land for growing vegetable in association with high technology following the requirement of safe vegetable production. As planned, by 2020, vegetable land obtains 5,380 ha and produces 142,000 tons. For sugarcane, it is recommended to better the intensive cultivation, productivity and sugar reserving elevation. Sugar land by 2020 would reach 1,000 ha and produce 80,750 tons. For cassava, the stable land will be sustained with 6-6.5 thousand ha and produce 190 thousand tons by 2020. different types of bean and peanut will be grown stably but intensive nad high-productivity models will be encouraged. The land for bean and peanut by 2020 would expect to rise by 4,380 ha and produce 6,740 tons.

In the long run, mango is identified as the key commodity-driven plant in the district.

For district’s key industrial and fruit plants such as cashew, rubber, pepper, coffee, mango, rambutan, durian, mangosteen, etc., their cultivating land will be expanded and attract investment and apply technical advances into cultivation. For cashew, the outdated seed will be replaced and new technology will also be applied to raise productivity and reduce the dependence on weather conditions. By 2020, cashew land will be 10,500 – 11,000 ha, producing 23,000 tons. Rubber cultivation will be expanded by 6,320 ha by 2020 and will locate at appropriate condition to produce 6,410 tons. For pepper, the land expansion will continue to rise from 1,279 ha in 2010 to around 16,000 – 17,000 ha by 2020, bidding to intensively cultivate pepper to improve productivity from 2,6 tons/ha to 3,5 tons/ha. Mango will be grown at the northern and partially eastern areas and continue to be intensively cultivated. In the long run, mango will be emerged as the key commodity-driven plant in the district, expectedly raising the land by 3,000 ha and producing 35,600 tons.

Pig is one of 3 livestock that Xuan Loc chooses to lead the animal breeding industry.

Concentrate on developing farm-bred animals

For animal breeding, Xuan Loc is planned to strengthen the farm-based husbandry of 3 key livestock such as pig, chicken and cow, constructs animal breeding areas and limits animal breeding in residential and urban areas. There will be around 323 thousand of pigs by 2015 and the figure will surge up to 453 thousand of pigs by 2020; by 2015, chicken will number 1.235 million and 1.613 million by 2020; Cows will target at achieving 34,300 and rising up to 37,000 by 2020. Apart from the aforesaid livestock. Xuan Loc will be able to raise others such as duck, quail, goat, sheep and bee, etc. The animal breeding incentive region is about to be planned on an area covering 17,968 ha. According to the proposal by 2015, the liveweight of various meat can gain 73 thousand tons and different eggs probably gain 29 million; by 2020, liveweight meat can obtain 105 thousand tons and eggs account for 43 million. For aquatic product, cultivating waters will be employed to develop freshwater aquatic products, contributing to improving the efficiency of land and water use and raising farmer’s income. The covering area of aquatic cultivation by 2020 will be roughly 790 ha and the productivity would gain 3,700 tons.

Xuan Loc will opt to farm-based animal breeding and closely link with the processing industry

To succeed in finishing the proposed objectives, the district will concentrate on comprehensively implementing many approaches such as reducing plant cultivation and raising animal breeding; strengthening the mechanization in agricultural product production and processing; critically applying scientific and technological advances into production and animal breeding; paying much attention to developing agriculture, industry, craft and small scale production, and rural services and vocations.
