In the first quarter this year, despite price fluctuation in market, agriculture, forestry and aquaculture output value of the province reached VND1,160 billion, up 4.4% over the same period, reaching 14.8% of the plan.
Out of that, output value of agriculture was VND982.6 billion, up 5.1% over the same period. That of forestry was VND13.1 billion and of aquaculture is VND164.8 billion, up 0.4% over the same period.
For agriculture production, the total cultivated area in the winter-spring crop was over 34 hectares, reaching 92.5% of the year plan. Because the rainy season ended soon and arid weather lasted long, many localities had drought and underground water level declined whereby there’s not enough water for irrigation and productivity was lower than that in the same period last year.
In the first quarter 2010, water surface area for pond and lake aquaculture was over 33,000 hectares. During this period, localities detected 41 cases of violating regulations on aquaculture production and exploitation.
