Selling rubber seedlings at Suoi Tre |
2-hectare garden owned by Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuong, residing at Suoi Tre village, grows about 200 thousands of rubber seedlings. Like other residents at the village, since he realized the rising demands for rubber seedlings, his family ventured to invest in them to earn high income. Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuong said: “I have had 10-year experience in growing rubber seedlings. As rubber sap price rises, those who live on rubber seedlings can earn a fair income. Every year, my income is around 30 million dongs/perch.”
With 2 hectares of rubber seedling production, this year’s income of Mr. Phuong’s family is around 600 million dongs and it also creates employments for local laborers. Each rubber seedling can be sold at 10-15 thousand dongs, depending on their specific type. At present, residents are applying 2 methods of growing rubber seedlings such as stumped budding (grow rubber seeds in polybags) and budded stump (dig holes for rubber seeds). After being cared in 9-10 months, rubber seedlings will be grafted at the knots and available for sale after 20 days.
As a rule of demand and supply, the rising price leads to the fact that grafting workers can also earn 4 or 5 times higher income than others. Mr. Le Van Toan, a grafting worker, said: “I have taken this job for 5 years and every day I can graft an average of 800 – 1,000 scions. Regardless of eating and drinking expenses, I earn a per diem of 400 thousand dongs/day.”
According to many peasants, the production of rubber seedlings can get an interest of 7-8 times much more than others at the same land size. Thanks to this large revenue, many farmer households at the village are able to improve their living standard and build new houses with many household facilities.
Rubber seedlings at Suoi Tre village now become popular nationwide with many outstanding ones provided by Dong Nai Rubber Incorporation and Research Institute of Rubber Trees in Small Plantation.
