Prevent and Restrict Raising and Trading in Red-Eared Sliders

In order to prevent the damaging effects of red-eared turtles on biodiversity and the ecological environment and ensure long-term benefits of environmental resources, Department of Natural Resources and Environment has submitted the proposal that requires departments, sectors, the Provincial Fatherland Front, organizations and unions, committees of the districts, Bien Hoa city and Khanh Long town to foster propaganda; widely report in mass media on red-eared slider threats to biodiversity and ecological environment; take measures to cooperate with relevant units to prevent and restrict raising and trading in red-eared turtles.

As known, the red-eared slider (Trachemys scipta elegans) is derived from North America, which is a fierce species seriously affecting ecological balance and indigenous species, ranked among the world's 100 most dangerous invaders by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
