In addition to the building of industrial parks, the investment in technological infrastructure has been conducted, which contributes to promoting socio-economic development.

Assessing how industrial parks in Dong Nai have developed in recent years, Deputy Head of Dong Nai Industrial Zone Authority Nguyen Manh Van said that it was developing pretty well.

This is partly thanks to a proper infrastructure investment strategy.

Investors’ operations have made contributions to improving every industrial park’s technological infrastructure, especially that concerning transport, electricity, and water.

This is one of the factors to cause industrial parks to operate effectively.

Currently, thanks to a relatively complete infrastructure, investors find it easier to better control and protect natural environment and landscapes and to cut down production costs and increase competitiveness.

Industrial parks and infrastructure are inseparable, said Van.

Therefore, thanks to the development of industrial parks their infrastructure is newly built.

Besides, the building and development of industrial parks plays a fundamental role in establishing urban areas and planning for socio-economic development structure.

Industrial parks with complete infrastructure have made real contributions to changing the face of the region and seeking opportunities to attract investors.

There are approximately 370,000 workers including 5,200 foreign ones working in 30 industrial parks in the province.

These industrial parks have contributed to stabilizing and raising the income of workers and laborers from across the country, who set foot onto Dong Nai to seek employment opportunities and then settle down.

Actually, the system of roads and waterways in Dong Nai had shown weaknesses in all aspects before 1991.

However, during the process of industrial park development, transport sector, especially goods import and export is faced up with the biggest weakness.

Due to the urgent needs for the establishment of industrial parks, Dong Nai’s transport systems are quickly planned and built.

Up to now, the length of road systems in Dong Nai totals 6,800 kilometers.

Basically, roads have completely been connected with the regions with a growing number of industrial parks.

Special-use road links alone inside industrial parks reach a length of more than 400 kilometers.

In addition to road systems, waterway systems are growing rapidly.

The length of rivers under the management of level of authorities totals 532 kilometers.

Many important parts of these rivers are providing a safe and effective service for ships in and out of Cat Lai, Phu Huu, Ong Keo, Go Dau, and Phuoc An ports.

Dong Nai’s water supply systems along Highway 51, where industrial parks are located and in industrial parks in Nhon Trach, Trang Bom, and Vinh Cuu are constantly growing.

In addition, electricity and telecommunications sector is relatively complete, giving an effective service to industrial parks.

In spite of achieving positive results concerning the building of industrial park infrastructure, there still exist drawbacks that need to be dealed with.

For instance, the building of constructions outside industrial parks fails to keep pace with the general development; the heavy traffic in industrial parks and in urban areas in rush hour is becoming a daily problem that causes traffic jams; rainwater and wastewater systems in many industrial  parks lack uniformity.

An unstable power supply is investors’ great concern.

Laborers’ lives are becoming difficult. Housing and kindergartens for the children of workers are also hot issues.

Among 1,124 industrial park projects in Dong Nai, there are 817 foreign-invested projects with a total investment capital of US$12.73 trillion and 307 domestic projects with a total investment capital of VND31.22 trillion (or US$1.49 billion).

Planned area in industrial parks in Dong Nai totals 9,573 hectares, 3,724 hectares of which are fully leased, accounting for 59 percent of the total area for lease.

The costs for the building of the infrastructure in industrial parks (excluding the building of factories) are estimated at VND3.89 trillion (or US$186.85 million) and more than US$78 million.
