According to a report by the Provincial People’s Committee, this year there is a decrease in cultivation areas of 4,747 hectares compared with the same period last year.

Spraying pesticide  rice field

Specifically, the areas cultivated so far have reached 72,011 hectares in which rice drops 1,295 hectares, corn 1.234, sweet potato 350 hectares, starched plants 43 hectares, vegetables 725 hectares, soybean 486 hectares, cotton 362 hectares. Accordingly, rice productivity reaches 4.16 tons per hectare, 5.23 tons per hectare for corn, etc. The reason accounting for the deceased productivity is because corn is usually intercropped with perennial plants which overshadow the space to grow corn.

According to Department of Agriculture And Rural Development, 2008-2009 winter-spring crop should be cultivated in December, 2008, or at least by January 15, 2009 unless it faces drought.
