First Half of 2011, 109 Labor Disputes Occur

Dong Nai Labor Federation’s statistics indicates that since early this year, there have occurred 109 labor disputes, resulting in the strikes of more than 54,000 workers, up 11 disputes over the same period 2010.

Since early 2011 there has been a continual occurrence of workers’ strikes to ask for salary due to the fact that salaries now fail to meet their necessary demands in life. Production activities in Bien Hoa Industrial Zone 1

Strikes occurred mainly in foreign-invested companies. There have occurred 95 out of 109 strikes in these companies.

There have been 30 strikes in Taiwanese companies, 24 in Korean companies, 10 in Japanese companies, and 5 in Chinese companies.

Strikes occur mainly in Bien Hoa Industrial Zone, and in Nhon Trach, Trang Bom, Long Thanh, Vinh Cuu, and Tan Phu districts, and in Bien Hoa city.

76 out of 109 strikes have occurred in the companies with labor unions.

Strikes occur mainly due to the fact that most workers ask their employers for pay rises, announcement of bonus, allowance increases for accommodation and travel costs and for improving the quality of meals between work shifts.

When strikes take place, Dong Nai Labor Federation collaborates with local functional agencies and companies in responding to workers’ demand in a timely manner for the stabilization of local business and production activities and social order and security.
