Phi said: “Life grows increasingly difficult. So, this causes women’s roles in family to dwindle. What should I do to give a hand to women in Trang Dai ward and to help them rise up in their lives and establish their positions?
This question is on her mind all the time. She witnessed much domestic violence in which the wives in her neighborhood were abused by their husbands.
Thus, she decided that she would join Trang Dai Ward Women’s Association. She thought that to make her voice heard the only way was to become a member of Women’s Association.
In an over-fifteen-year position of a chairwoman of Trang Dai Women’s
Association, Phi can not remember how many times she has been involved in
mediations, and helped many a family on their verge of separation or divorce
make up and live together happily.
To do this, she has overcome tons of problems. There were times she were threatened by abusive husbands, said Phi.
With her own efforts, she has made the total number of Trang Dai Women’s Association members add up to 4,770, reaching a high percentage of 85 percent.
Not only have a lot of Association members been attracted to participate in its activities, but 72 members have managed to escape poverty through training and propaganda courses, and loan programs.
Her family and she herself are the typical individuals who have managed to escape poverty.
My family earned very low income. So, to play a good role of the Chairwoman of the Women’s Association, I used to work many types of jobs such as vegetables growing, pig keeping, fish raising and so on, said Phi.
Phi’s work always starts early morning. This forces her to pick vegetables when a day breaks and then take them to the market for sale. Next, she has to prepare for things in her family. Finally, she goes straight to her office.
Problems used to occur in Phi’s own family because her husband got angry with her at sticking her nose into others’ things. But later, her husband became gradually sympathetic and understandable.
“After I explained many times to my husband, he began to understand and switch to support my job”, smiled and said Phi.
Though I do not earn much in my job, being loved by others is great motivation for me to try harder, added Phi.
The biggest gain for myself in this job is that all my children learn a lot from my good example and they are always obedient, and make much progress in their learning. As a result, my family life becomes happier and happier, said Phi.
