Project on supporting disabled children in 2010-2012 period deployed

On October 28, Dong Nai People's Committee, Department of Labors, War Invalids and Social Affairs joined hands with UNICEF Vietnam to hold a conference on deploying the project on supporting disabled children in Dong Nai province in the 2010-2012 period.

   

The conference’s view

 

The project has 5 key targets, 6 specific goals and 8 activities including raising the government's awareness of providing for the rights of disabled children; providing health care, education and vocational training for disabled children; conducting health check-ups and creating favorable conditions for disabled children to integrate into the community; helping 60% of disabled children access education and other public services; and ensuring 100% of disabled children from poor families enjoying material support, etc. The total cost of the project amounted to VND22.5 billion of which VND3 billion from the provincial budget and VND19.5 billion mobilized from other individuals and institutions.

The province now has 20,000 disabled people (nearly 7,500 female ones and over 12,000 male ones), accounting for 0.8% of the population. Among 4,500 disadvantaged children under six, there are 282 blind children, 1,100 deaf and dump children, 853 paralyzed children, and 2,352 mentally disturbed children.
