At the recent Job Exchange, a paradox in labor supply and demand was observed. Despite the presence of many unemployed workers seeking jobs, businesses are still unable to recruit new workers. According to the businesses, the reason is that the workers lack the skills required to work in the industrial environment, making it difficult to fill job positions. Additionally, many older workers lack technical skills. As a result, even though there is a high demand for workers, businesses continue to face a labor shortage.

In order to achieve sustainable development and increase the value of products, Shiogai Seiki Vietnam Co., Ltd (a 100% foreign-invested company in Amata Industrial Zone) has introduced modern machinery into certain production processes, replacing manual labor. Consequently, the workforce also needs to enhance their skills to meet the company's production requirements. Currently, the company is actively recruiting skilled workers for operating CNC turning and milling machines.

A representative from the company's HR department stated that workers who have received vocational training in mechanical engineering from intermediate level and above will be given priority by the company if they meet the job requirements. The company is willing to offer competitive salaries based on the job position. Furthermore, newly recruited workers who possess the required job skills will be offered immediate contracts and enjoy welfare policies provided by the company. However, recruiting skilled labor has become challenging as many applicants do not meet the requirements. This poses a challenge for businesses as they have already signed contracts but lack skilled labor.


Since the Covid-19 pandemic and the global economic impact, many workers have faced unemployment and difficult living conditions. From this reality, enhancing skills is a solution that helps workers secure stable employment, increase income, and improve their lives. Workers need to engage in further education to meet the current job requirements.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, Supervisor of the Welding Department at Vietnam Precision Industries Joint Stock Company (in Trang Bom district), mentioned that the process of integration and the industrial revolution 4.0 require workers to possess technical skills as well as soft skills such as communication, teamwork, work attitude, high discipline, and responsibility towards their work. With a professional work ethic, workers can easily establish a solid position within the company and earn a high income.

Enhancing technical skills for workers

Skilled workers are often highly valued and less likely to be laid off by businesses. Particularly, as companies are increasingly embracing digital transformation in their production and operations, workers need to be more professional, have teamwork skills, analytical abilities, and the capability to propose performance improvement solutions. Furthermore, workers must possess professional ethics, industrial cultural awareness, labor discipline, work attitude, and a sense of responsibility towards their jobs. Workers themselves must also continuously strive to create better quality products for businesses.

In order to build a dynamic and innovative workforce with stable employment and higher incomes, the Provincial Confederation of Labor has recently directed labor unions at all levels in the province to intensify the dissemination of the Party's policies, state laws, and labor union resolutions regarding the improvement of education levels and vocational skills for workers. Additionally, many businesses provide financial assistance and create opportunities for workers to pursue education, enhance vocational skills, and meet job requirements.

Moreover, grassroots labor unions organize dialogues to facilitate time and financial support for their members and workers to participate in education and training programs to enhance their qualifications. They also mobilize workers to improve their vocational skills through labor excellence movements and creative labor initiatives. A portion of technically skilled workers have become managerial and operational staff within businesses.
