Coffee farmers attended the "Story of Vietnamese Coffee Beans" program at the Nestlé Tri An Factory (Amata Industrial Park, Bien Hoa City).

The program aimed to express gratitude to coffee farmers. Its purpose was to help coffee farmers gain a deeper understanding of value-added processing activities for Vietnamese coffee beans. Nestlé Vietnam organized a tour and learning experience for 50 outstanding farmers from the NESCAFÉ Plan program. These farmers were given the opportunity to explore coffee processing technologies, taste various coffee products, and engage with staff operating a modern coffee processing plant.

Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc, NESCAFÉ Plan Program Manager at Nestlé Viet Nam, shared: “This is the first time we have organized a factory tour for the farmers who have been with the NESCAFÉ Plan for over 13 years. It is also an occasion for us to express our appreciation and show them how their dedication and contributions have been crucial to the success of the NESCAFÉ Plan and the sustainable development of the Vietnamese coffee industry overall."

This tour helped farmers understand more about the journey of Vietnamese coffee beans—from raw materials, processing, to the production of high-quality products that are exported to 30 global markets, including demanding markets like Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the United States. The event also reaffirmed Nestlé's commitment to supporting farmers in transitioning to sustainable farming models, improving livelihoods, and adding value to Vietnamese coffee in both domestic and international markets.

As a global initiative of Nestlé, the NESCAFÉ Plan has been implemented by Nestlé Viet Nam in the Central Highlands provinces since 2011, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute, and provincial Agricultural Extension Centers, to support coffee farmers in practicing regenerative agriculture.

To date, the program has conducted more than 355,000 training sessions on sustainable coffee cultivation for farming households, provided seedling support to an average of over 21,000 farming households annually from 2011 to 2023, and distributed more than 74 million high-yield, disease- and drought-resistant seedlings, helping rejuvenate over 74,000 hectares of aging coffee trees. By adopting regenerative agriculture methods for coffee cultivation, the program has helped farmers save up to 40% of irrigation water, reduce chemical fertilizers and pesticides by 20%, and increase income by 30-100%.

The program has also established 274 farmer groups, with over 30% of these groups led by female farmers. These women have been trained professionally and continue to share knowledge and inspire their communities to practice sustainable farming.

In May 2024, Nestlé also released its second Progress Report for the NESCAFÉ Plan 2030. The report highlighted the increased adoption of regenerative agriculture methods, which improve productivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as Nestlé's efforts to promote multilateral cooperation towards the sustainable development of the coffee industry, improving farmers' livelihoods, and creating a green, low-emission agricultural future.
